You’d be utterly sick if you got caught up in the “can’t miss out” of the first batch and paid over book for one…

Sixty 'effin Kay for a GR86?! You're looking at almost Maserati levels of depreciation if you bought that one!

I doubt any sold for much over the MSRP.

There were a few here who were selling their first batch cars early and they've ended up breaking even in most cases.

I’m pondering which of the two has the more chocolate engine of the two. Maserati certainly weren’t a stranger to crank walk in the past on theirs and the Subaru units in the Toyota is probably my biggest concern about the car in the longer picture of ownership given I intend to keep hold of it as long as possible.

I doubt it, too, but I do reckon there are a few people who paid mid to late thirties from a flipper in the initial hype.

The collecting cars one didn’t make reserve, annoyingly they don't show what the best offer was

I'm the same, paid RRP but I look at it this way, yes I've paid about £3k more than I could get a pre-registered one for now but I'm the only owner and as I intend to keep it 10 years or so its only £300 per year extra depreciation and I don't think these cars will depreciate that much long term, unlike my 3 year old BMW X3 that's depreciated £10k after only 1 year of ownership 😭

I'm just going to enjoy the 86 and not think about its value

We don’t have any other choice Mike but I’m with you 😬

A lot of those last ones will be damaged cars that were rejected by buyers, so they will have had some paintwork probably.

I asked Toyota and any damaged cars will be pre reg only. No repaired cars will be sold new with paintwork or damage repaired.
I checked my brand new over thoroughly and there are no repairs on mine. I could tell if there was. It’s normally quite obvious with a keen eye.

Sorry if I’ve missed it, but why were the last ones likely to have had some paintwork?

Only way to tell for sure is to measure multiple points on every panel with a paint depth gauge. A good painter will make a repair invisible to even someone with a well trained eye.

The key being “good” - unfortunately they seem few & far between now!

Normally damaged in transit. They send back to Derby to be reworked and then sent back out to be pre reg and sold on as secondhand.
They can be reworked in the factory and still sold new though.

Ah I see - makes sense thanks

I was reading about a number of new cars dealer/manufactures also being trying to be sold pre 2024 when the fleet average for emissions kick in, isnt it £15k fine per car sold over the fleet average? BMW were dropping huge amounts off M cars pre Christmas, whether pre registering them before 2024 has the same effect Im not sure?
