GR86 Boot closing strap - saving dirty hands and paint marks.

After 4 years with a BRZ and 7 months with the GR86 I have just about trained myself to remember that there's a strap in the boot now so I don't have to touch the paintwork 
I feel your pain Sir. The moths in my wardrobe must have an interest in bespoke tailoring, as the waistbands on some of my trousers seem to have been taken in?

Thanks for your support during this difficult time but I have managed.
I called my friend with a forklift licence and I've been successfully moved from the sofa and walked to the postbox.

Athough this strap is great, mine was always a bit flat and not very loop like. Meaning sometimes it could be a bit difficult and hard to get hold of and tug in a rush (fnaar). So I have been in the garage and made modifications!
Started by looking around for any sort of circular object that would fit in the strap to keep it's shape, hoping that eventually the strap would just open up permanently. Roll of tape would seem ideal but couldn't find one the right size. But as luck would have it, I was doing some DIY in the kitchen yesterday and finished off a roll of masking tape.
Using my Professional Table Saw (which is definitely not just a multi tool clamped into a vice), I cut the whole roll in half around it's circumference, then made a slit so I could make it smaller by folding it inside itself. Ended up with this...
Offered it up to the strap to get the size right and cut away the excess length giving a ring of exactly the right size (snigger) to fit inside the strap and take up all the slack. Added some black electrical tape to hold it together, but then wrapped the whole lot in it for good measure, to hide any frayed edges and make it a bit less visible and et voilà...behold, the one ring!
I now have a strap that I can grab easily without having to fiddle about trying to get my finger in (fnaar!).

It's only cardboard so it does flex a little, but I'm hoping that even if it eventually falls apart, by the time it does, the strap will have opened up to the new shape somewhat so I can bin it entirely. If not, well I still have the other half of the tape roll so I could remake it easily, or use it as a template it make it out of something sturdier.
