The more I have thought about it today I have come to the conclusion for me is that the changes to the new MK2 aren't that important to me.
I am happy with the seat height and mirror riser. I don't race or track so my car is more than plenty. I like the rear spoiler on mine so won't be fitting another so the lowered brake light isn't needed. Spirited road driving is all I do so those engine upgrades will be totally lost on me.
The dash shown at the auto show does look nice - it is trimmed and not the one we saw in the camouflaged car.
I am looking forward to getting my hybrid, auto Yaris cross in March as my daily after a few enjoyable drives so with people saying they think MK3 could be hybrid due to regulations I find myself thinking I am better enjoying my MK1 till then and go for a possible hybrid and being able to justify to myself I have had value from mine and at 5-6 years old I can change.
Now is too soon to let it go and spend possibly £10-£15k for what is effectively a different dashboard as I won't notice the rest. There needs to be a real change for me to let my lovely red MK1 go and how much will it cost me to dig up my drive and put a gravel drive down just so I can press that button.

I saw another of angle of the interior on one of the 50 articles I've now read(but I've forgotten which one) and it's not to my taste still but it's better than my initial shock reaction 😆, the front end has not grown on me, it looks awful,

I get change for the cooling improvements they've made but as cuddles said, for abit of B road blasting it'll make no difference to me,

hopefully there's plenty to go around for all those looking to get the new one though

Yeah, looking even just at other Carwow vids, Matt Watson himself has managed to get under the claimed 0-60 in his Yaris, a GR did a 12.5s qtr mile in the dry, and even managed 13.6s in the wet.

Maybe the track was slightly uphill?

All a bit odd, but I guess they want to flatter the new car and not piss Toyota off.
I was thinking the same thing. I've witnessed 12.xx 1/4s with 0-100 times of 4.8 seconds. I wonder what factors were at play...

A few thoughts on MK1 and Mk2 pricing.

Many of us in the UK will have £33500 as the base cost of a Circuit Pack in the back of our head's, because that was the launch price 3 years ago.

As far as I know after several price increases since the current RRP is £35705, which is rarely quoted, if this is incorrect, then let me know.

(Metallica extra £615, Pearlescent £920)

If the Mk2 has a 10% increase then we are at £39275 / £39952 metallic / £40287 pearl.

So we are potentially bouncing on the £40k RFL threshold (extra £390pa tax for 5 years).

The above doesn't take into account any premium for the auto version, so could be £41500/£42000.

All depends on how Toyota want to price it/position it. My gut feeling is just under the threshold for the auto incl paint, so £39995 and £38k for the manual.

They could price it with metallic/pearl as no cost to stay under the threshold, they could sell both manual and auto at the same RRP - both unlikely.

Whatever they decide it's going to be in the high 30's to low 40's.

Yeah, plenty of people have Racelogic/Dragy/etc. evidence of the current car doing 4.Xs 0-100 kmh, even with our hobbled Euro-spec cars 😁

I would like to swap mine for the new one, but it all depends on the price. I do think that the upgrades are worth it. But if it's going to be close to 60k euros, no thanks. The original was about 53 here in Finland, already way too expensive.

Mat Watson did say in his review that the pedals haven't changed from the Mk1 which make heel and toe almost impossible. When I drove it 2yrs ago I know I couldn't do it consistently. Whereas some seat time in the GR86 and it's spot on. This puts me off a bit and I don't really want the auto.

If the GR86 didn't exist I think I'd be seriously considering it. While I could do some maths to get one to go alongside, I'd have to be nuts to. I'd have 3 cars, one bike and there's only me. The GR86 and my bike are going anywhere and the Swift is still sentimental and very handy for tip and dog trips. I don't need a Yaris, even if I'm very intrigued. I don't even mind the dash.

I've owned my fridge white Jun-22 car for exactly 1yr today (happy GRY birthday to me 😍) and having given this a fair bit of thought over last couple of days, reading the Toyota UK press release and watching all the videos I could find..

Almost definitely stating the obvious, I would definitely change for a new one if money was no object. I would have to drive the auto and manual back to back to decide which one I enjoyed more. I do wonder how the additional stiffness (spring rates, structural adhesive, strut mounts) would would play out on a B road blast. And I'd also need to see grey in the flesh to see if I preferred it to white.

I'm ambivalent about the driving position, which I find fine in mk1, and I can't get too excited about the new dash one way or another, but unfortunately money is quite the object!

Given the mk2 new technology and associated development costs, significant inflation since mk1 launch and a narrow to negative margin on mk1, I think a new one will be nudging, if not exceeding £40k. So for me, a significant chunk of cash to change, and as a B road blaster, I don't think smiles per gallon would change measurably with the mk2.

In addition, having had some awesome times in my current car, the bond is strong and I like the feel of having the original version of a game changing car. I popped out to the garage earlier for something and I still have the flutter of excitement seeing it sat there, let alone getting in it for a drive!

Part of me would like the mk1 to have been the end of the story, securing exclusivity for mk1 owners but a bigger part of me is thrilled Toyota are continuing on the GR journey, meaning more people will be able to enjoy a GR and join the community, and more OEM and aftermarket products, services and support can only be a good thing.

I hope and think the mention of 300 UK cars is marketing hype to drive demand. Yes, there is legislation which penalises companies that don't hit the required ratio of EV to ICE cars but surely all those development costs wouldn't have been incurred for such low sales volumes...

So I'll continue to enjoy reading other people's thoughts and views with interest and eagerly await the next installment of the mk2 story, Mar-24 when pricing is announced 👍

A question about the MKII. It's only going to be available in one format, the Circuit pack? Will it have a HUD and the other "options" that were only available on the Convenience pack in the UK, but on the JDM car and the Rallye in Australia?

Just catching up with this new information of the new model. Great that they are developing the car. I did think that the first one would be the last rally homologation pure ICE car produced. It was part of the reason for buying one. I like the fact they are producing an auto as I do like flappy paddles for normal road driving but to be fair in reality I let the car do the shifting for me 90% of the time. Changing gear increases driver involvement for me and as I only use my GRY on occasion then I always enjoy it. Only done 3300 miles from new ( only had it 10 months) and 2500 of that was on a single week long European road trip.
Interior on the new one is challenging to look at and I much prefer the front on the MK 1.
No incentive for me to change and I think the original will hold its value in the long term although it may take a hit to start with. Will still go and test drive a new one though😂

Gathered my thoughts but as it's a fair chunk I've put it in a seperate thread..

Just an observation I thought I'd share since the announcement. In AUS there were 36 RallyE for sale and now there are 41. There has been a drop in listing sale prices by approximately 3k 🤔

Any info on what the UK allocation spec will be?
I saw somewhere that the forged alloys will be extra which was a bit of a surprise
