I'll try my best (if I get one). All the talentless nobheads will buy the auto and give the car a bad rep.
How many others think the new 2035 deadline will also be moved back. I do, which means we will have at least another 11 years of ICE cars. Europe will also do the same when they realise far too many people don't want EVs. So, when Toyota says these cars are here for a long run then we can hope to buy MK3 and even MK4s in the future so no need to jump and buy right now. Just enjoy the MK1 for a few more years and then put an order in when it suites you better. That's why my MK1 still has so much to offer me before I say goodbye. There will also be many who will never let the MK1 go as it is the special first child.
They said the same about Euro1 (cats). And Euro2. And Euro3. And Euro4 etc. Before then we will have Euro7, which will make any sort of sporty ICE car impossible. Unless things change drastically. So yeah, the ICE ban deadline will probably be extended, but very likely after the next 5-10 years ICE segment will consist of cars that are very boring to hit those super strict Euro7 requirements.
BMW has been fighting to get Euro7 altered, as the requirements have not been finalized yet.
Also, things like ISA will get stricter in the future.
If we want fun cars in the future we got to get everyone to vote differently.
Norway is still set to ban ICE cars in 2025... I believe it when I see it, but nothing surprises me at this point...
The mk1 looks better but it’s acceptable to have worse look for better functionality on a rally carCarwow vid did a comparison shot of the new front vs the old.
I’m not a fan! Mk1 definitely has nicer lines.

Regulators want to impose change for societal good and manufacturers don’t want to have to spend money meeting challenging engineering goals which get in the way of profit. Quelle surprise.
Yet here we are in 2024 with some of the best drivers’ cars ever
The industry and regulators will compromise where necessary, as always.
Why not have a GR Yaris for fun and an electric chariot for daily duties? Works for me anywayI think the market should decide when to stop using regular gas cars, not the officials in Brussels. A lot of people around the world don't want to buy EVs, even though they're being heavily advertised.
The EV car market is collapsing atm. The not-so-great sides of EVs, like their cost, impact on the environment, and how customers are reacting, are finally getting more attention now. Car dealers and companies are freaking out, but it seems like the politicians aren't paying attention yet.
I'm not saying EVs won't be important in the future. But right now, we're moving to EVs too fast without being ready for it. So, I think we'll still see ICE cars for at least 10 more years, maybe even 20. But this could be different in different countries.
I think the next update for the GR Yaris won't just be a small change. It'll probably be a completely new design.
Me tooWhy not have a GR Yaris for fun and an electric chariot for daily duties? Works for me anywaylove EV power and

Oh, and a Dacia Duster because that should be compulsory.
Nice fleet - have always fancied an i3. Is it pure EV or range extender? We have had a Skoda Yeti, from new in 2012, been brilliant and hoping to eek it out another few years while kids learning to drive, then may look at replacing with Duster, seems cut from same cloth as YetiWhy not have a GR Yaris for fun and an electric chariot for daily duties? £55 to do 2700 miles in the last 2 months in the i3 btw…
Model 3 LR looking like amazing value atm. If model y LR goes the same way then potential i3 and duster replacement rolled into 1. What a time we live inMe too. Tesla for Daily, 20 year old Mitsu for the Dog. GRY for blast.
I hope the MK3 is a complete new fresh Design with Hybrid, not for efficiency, only for Power.
It’s a 94ah range extender. Have to travel long distance for work occasionally and i can’t be doing with the pathetic charging infrastructure. Knocks out close on 50mpg on petrol so better value than public chargers.Nice fleet - have always fancied an i3. Is it pure EV or range extender? Exactly re dino juice not being sustainable. So I reckon 15k of run of the mill motoring a year in the i3 (which is bloody brilliant to drive in its own way) and 2k a year on the dirty stuff for fun driving in the GR is a decent compromise. Oh and 1k a year carting the kids to the mountain bike park on the bastard child of the early 2000s Megane and Clio diseasal.Family BEV and GRY here too. Perfectly shows my ambivalent relation to the motor car. Love driving the GRY but also realise it's s not sustainable on a system level to keep burning massive amounts of liquid earth materials and put it in our thin atmosphere... Most change isn't market driven, it's regulation driven. And for absolutely the majority of drivers, EV is much nicer to drive, and I too enjoy it. Perfect combo imho with the domesticated rally car... Back on topic the enthusiast driver car is becoming rarer for sure but not at Toyota apparently....
The new thing is the best thing until it’s not the new thing, when it becomes rubbish. In 3 years time the all electric / hybrid 500bhp ioniq 5n competitor will be the best thing and the mk2 GR will be garbage…until.,,suddenly…. In exactly 12 years time the mk1 will be the OG / best of the best / raw / uncompromising/ homologation special and the one to have…blah blah seen it all beforeOne thing that's confusing to me is how every review of the new MK2 goes on and on about its improvements. It's like, after digging through all these reviews, articles, and videos, you'd think Toyota totally botched the MK1. It's almost like they're saying the MK1 is a complete disaster with an endless list of problems. Seriously, is it actually that terrible? I'm asking because I'm nearing 2,000 km in my MK1, and with all this talk, you'd think the car's about to fall apart any second - that's the kind of vibe I'm getting. Now, everyone's harping on about the MK1's diff and engine overheating issues.
That's what I want to know, I called my dealer and updated him with the details. We will be swapping the order as soon as it becomes availableI like the exterior styling but, apart from the better infotainment screen, I don't like the dash.
I think the complaints about seating and mirror position in the mk1 had a lot of internet-fuelled hype about them; I find the seat fine and the mirror is actually less intrusive than on our MX5 and there are no massive shouts of angst about those.
I do wonder if those of us that are still on the waiting list to get on the order books will get first dibs?
