GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

The dash reminded me straight away of the Astra GTE.
Good changes but everyone must remember the one we already have is a fabulous car.
Interesting to hear that ours was always just the start and there will be more to come.
Just ordered a Yaris Cross as daily so can't justify getting this yet.
I does make me think though that I must use mine more and as someone said earlier I can look at this in a few years.
I find myself hoping a Mk3 will be produced in about 2028. A hybrid would be fine with me as long as the same GR engineers produce it.
I do think this new car is for serious drivers more than the likes of me - an average driver as my current GR is more than I need so can I justify a possible extra £15-£20k for things I don't need and wouldn't use. Probably the same for most folk.
For me, it will have to wait for a more natural time to look to change mine which means I need to get more use out of mine over the next few years.
Well done Toyota and their enthusiast chairman.
 
I'll try and get one of these I think
And in the highly likely event that I'm not successful I'll just do some mods to my current one instead..

It says on the Toyota press release it is limited availability in the UK.

Neither of those factors is likely to have changed (if the price is in anyway realistic) so I expect the clamour/delays to be similar.

It was only limited by choice. They chose to produce more GR Corolla than GR Yaris. They could have delivered 40k+ of them if they wanted to. Why would they do that when there are suckers willing to wait for 30 months though? You can sell even more cars to even more people, which is what Toyota did.

Average fleet emission fines... Not a problem in Corolla markets

Just watched that Toyota video. The enthusiasm and passion shines through. What a bunch of lads (and at least one lassie!). To go to that effort to relocate the brake light, do the custom dash with such driver focus, deliver a worthy automatic transmission etc., hats off. Sincerely.

I've seen brief mention of 'improved valvetrain' and it'll be interesting to see if that includes stronger springs and maybe a change to the follower design to stop them floating and wrecking engines.

Honda, Toyota, and I guess Hyundai are really on a different plane when it comes to trying to keep us non-billionaire enthusiasts happy
 
was there anywhere details on cooler configuration. my assumption is that manual extra cooler is extra water cooler, and for auto it could be an oil cooler.

Not really. The US has had Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) laws since the 1970s. OK, it may be relatively (and increasingly) toothless, but it exists and manufacturers have to comply. Also, California and I think a few other states have much more stringent average fleet emission rules, and they still get the Corolla.
 
I must admit that I already toyed with the idea of getting a GR Supra. I always wanted to own a car like that and now it's financially actually doable and my lifestyle allows a two seater sports car as a daily too. But shortly before going through with it I realized again how much I love my Yaris and the joy it gives me. What it can do and how capable it is. I can say that I never had such a strong emotional bond with a car before.
Obviously everyone has their own use cases but I personally can't think of a better companion to have on the streets. I guess a Nissan GT-R would also check all the criteria but Im certainly not that well-off.

Best thing is that I could have the Yaris paid off around July which obviously would free up a chunk of income again so I must say the news about this new GR Yaris leave me kinda conflicted to be honest.

Damn you, Toyota. Why do you have to make my life so difficult by releasing these products? 😩

I like the exterior styling but, apart from the better infotainment screen, I don't like the dash.

I think the complaints about seating and mirror position in the mk1 had a lot of internet-fuelled hype about them; I find the seat fine and the mirror is actually less intrusive than on our MX5 and there are no massive shouts of angst about those.

I do wonder if those of us that are still on the waiting list to get on the order books will get first dibs?

Seriously though, fair play to Toyota for all the tweaks. I’ll keep hold of my “old” model though (unless they happen to offer £33.5k, 0% APR and 4 week lead time of course).
