GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Partner is on board with the new Yaris. We have two cars at the moment (me a GR86 and her an auto Aygo (she only has an auto license)) and we really could go down to one car. I’m 100% WFH and always will be unless something drastic changes so only use mine on weekends/trips away and hers is a commuter.

Finance for one GR Yaris probably comes back cheaper than 2 separate payments, as well as insurance, servicing etc being essentially halved.

The GRY and GR86 are very different cars though, not sure how I'd decide between the two.

It depends on what you are looking for as a driving experience.

Honestly by the time the Yaris gets here I’ll have had my fill of the 86 I think. I say all this now but parting ways with it when it comes time could be another thing entirely 😂

The 4 wheel drive of the GRY is a little point and squirt type driving, the GR86 is more drift round that corner, for me my GR86 is more fun but the new Yaris is very 80s rally car style and I would happily engage on one

Well here it is, the MK2 is revealed, it’s very tasty, I wonder if it’s a dealer sale product or another scramble like the GR86 on the Toyota website, £36k I imagine for a manual, £38k auto.
Sounds like internet only, so no doubt a very similar scramble! I wasn’t convinced there was another GR Yaris coming, so I could be surprised again, but I can’t see how they could deliver the new car for only £500 more than the last one (based on final list price) given we have probably seen between 15% to 20% inflation since!

I’d imagine the first gen had to make back the R&D costs for the whole project, whereas this one only has the revisions to pay for. Completely dumbed down of course

I think £36.5k because the differences are small, it’s basically a big refresh, but with cars much harder to sell today as interest rates are more prohibitive, I think they know to keep the price as low as possible to achieve the sales numbers, £2k more for auto gets the car below the £40k threshold that would almost kill the purchase, time will tell.

I'm not sure there will as much of a scramble if it's true what Autocar says about it being a permanent model now, rather than limited edition. As in, less reason to rush in and order compared to last time.

I was one of the lucky 400 who scrambled on the internet for a GR86, 40 minutes from t g e books opened and it took 11 months to get the car, 23 registered and in Electric Blue so was very lucky at £30900.

If this comes with heated seats and a steering wheel then I’m sold
If you want them features for £26.5k and have amazing fun, buy the Hyundai i20N
It’s amazing value, makes the GRY look expensive, has a better interior and can be tuned to be as quick for very little money, What car hot hatch of the year 2023….I have one so can recommend with driver experience.

Conflicting info flying around, someone here or on the other forum mentioned 300 coming to the UK but haven't replied with a source yet.

Wouldn’t surprise me, Toyota know how to cause a stir and create a waiting list, good for press, look at the GR86 press, sold out in 90 minutes, that’s how you make a demand, Rolex have done it for decades

I hope it is a general sale model, I'm not overly bothered about exclusivity. I would rather ensure I can get one.

wonder if Mk2 will get into top gear all time best 6 list to get 10/10. Given if its better than mk1, it should.

The original was never a limited edition, it was only limited in the sense that production was constrained by factory capacity and demand vastly exceeded supply. It's been on Toyota's price lists for over three years.

Neither of those factors is likely to have changed (if the price is in anyway realistic) so I expect the clamour/delays to be similar.
