Indeed - I think it was the weight of the bloody thing that did the damage - it's the era of the slow speed high-energy impacts.
Now just have to argue for months with his insurance company to get it repaired to how it was and not just 'That'll do'
 
A little tip for the GR86-admirer driving along in the opposite direction in Corley, Warwickshire, this lunchtime:

Perhaps, when so enthused to see a GR86 on the road and keen to film the encounter on your phone whilst driving, you should take care to keep suitable control of your VW Passat in order that you don't drift onto the other side of the carriageway almost INTO the GR86 you clearly admire.

Comrades, if you see any footage of a silver GR86 being driven by a greying-haired man mouthing "WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU DOING" on 'the socials', it's probably me.

Went to collect online Asda shop . Asda employee comes over. “That the new supra mate?”. Nah , it’s the little brother. “Oh right , well looks nice”.

It’s the 3rd time now.. next time I’m just saying yeh. Nobody knows anyway.

There was a white GT86 I pass on the way home from work, it’s vanished a while ago. There is now a GR86 in its place, 73 plate, same colour as my old GT, Magnatite Grey. the fella had his window down and was preparing to drive off, spotted me and gave a very enthusiastic wave!
First I have seen in my local area.
 
On the way home from Manchester last week I was in the middle lane and a 3 or 4 series BMW passed me, the passenger was having a good look. It then pulled over 2 lanes, slowed down, I passed it, it then pulled over 2 lanes and re-overtook me with the passenger still having a good old ogle. Must have been the first they have seen, probably no clue what it was.
 
After 2,000 miles through France the last 12 days not seen anyone pay the car any mind. I’ve been told a few people have spotted it and then gone to see what it is (probably thinking it was a supra) arrived at the hotel tonight before the ferry back home tomorrow, and a young French lad ran into the car park and spent a good 3 or 4 mins taking various pictures of it. He seemed to be a fan, but unfortunately I got kicked out of French class as a kid so no conversation was had!

I quite like the way the car flies under the radar (even in bright red).

The GR86 propably doesn't sell well in France because of their eco tax. (~ +50%) So it is not that likely to see one in France.

That and the French I’m lead to believe (and the endless procession of mundane Dacia’s, Renaults, Peugeots & Kia’s on my drive to the south of France would certainly confirm it) place cars somewhere way below wine, cheese, baguette, gauloises and mistresses on their list of preferred expenditures.
 
I had a test drive with an M240i this week (felt like a boat and steering is absolutely unacceptable, I can't believe how disconnected it was).
When I came back to the parking lot, there was another grey GR86 parked (first one ever I've seen in the wild).
I like to believe that the BMW instructor drives it because BMW steering sucks and 1,7 tonnes is normal for a small 3-door so called "ultimate driving machine" nowadays (BMW has lost it completely imo). I regret not asking him whose it was, could've been hilarious if it really was his. When I got back in my car I was convinced there's no other car for me (except a Cayman GTS or GT4), can't believe how good of a car we have. My wife/kids will have to live with it.
