GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

I know there is not much love for the auto on here, but has anyone ordered one in the latest batch?

We went for a test drive yesterday (in a manual) and liked it, but the car would be for my wife who will only consider an auto.

I’ve gone to the order page and it only shows the manual option, even though the invite email states you can select your preferred colour and transmission.

I have emailed them, but it says they are only open Mon-Fri, and our invitation expires on Sun.

No insider info but my gut feel is this second batch of cars was block ordered by Toyota U.K. So you’re likely picking from a pool of cars that are already built or due to be built shortly. The list Toyota UK would have ordered based on expected demand in terms of mix of colour/transmission type.

Thanks, I guess that makes sense.

If true, it would have been helpful if they explained that but hey ho. It also implies that they must have had some auto's and have sold them all!

And logic follows that the next thing to become unavailable on the configuration will be one of the currently available colours 👍

Picked mine up today no131 on list, no tyre light👍, clutch and throttle perfect for me, work in motor trade so drive lots of different cars everyday, get to unwrap it myself too, winner!! I detail cars for a living, bus man's holiday for me tomorrow, deffo worth the wait for the car
I am no detailer but take great pride in washing my car and reducing swirls etc as much as possible. I will be putting in a request for the dealer to not wash the car at all before handover in a couple of weeks as they will butcher it. Is there anything specifc you recommend for removing any residue from the transport wrap or should any remaining glue probably come off from a decent snow foam and 2 bucket contact wash?

Mine hasn't arrived yet - it's just passed Tunisia - but this is good.

Just an FYI in case anyone is interested, but Toyota confirmed back to me this morning that they have sold out of AT cars, hence why I couldn't order one, but they still have MT cars available in al colours. They have said I am on a list, and would be in touch should any more AT become available.

Yes. I changed my order to an AT on 3rd July (about a week or so after my initial order). I was told by the online team that it would mean a delay with delivery, possibly until November (whereas my MT car was expected September). That being said, I don't think that you can order an AT anymore? A lad I know got an invite email last week but could only configure a manual car - there was no option to spec an AT.

I agree with the previous recommendation for Gtechniq (W7) Tar & Glue remover. Although it's safe for Ceramic Coatings, just make sure that you don't use it on anything with PPF.
I've built up quite a collection of 'stuff' over the last year or so. The more products I discover the more my 'Detailing Corner' seems to spread!

I heard from the Salesman in Dunfermline that a recent GR86 delivery was rejected at point of sale due to it having a couple of dents! Apparently these were discovered upon removing the protective film wraps and happened some time during transit. Hence I've agreed to have these removed when mine arrives with them, so it can be properly checked before (a) I hand over my cash and, (b) I drive it off the forecourt to the Detailers for Ceramic & PPF. Deffo worth going over the car when it arrives for sure!

That's a good point, think remove film, check paint, PDI but please don't wash, polish or put the oily tyre dressing on is the way to go.

As I've mentioned before, it's one of the reasons that the Detailer I use doesn't like to accept cars with the film still on it - a few years' ago they too took the film off a brand new car prior to doing a paint correction only to discover a scratch along the roof. They then had to try and prove it wasn't done by them. The film only leaves a bit of 'gum' on the panels and as the cars are left parked outside out in the rain at the dealership it'll get a free wash down from Mother Nature without the scratchy mechanic's sponge being near it.
I had a Plastic A3 sign made up that I stuck (with suckers) to the inside of the windscreen every time my previous vehicle went into the dealership for a service, inspection or recall. Often dealers will do a 'Courtesy Wash' as part of their customer care package so it helped me avoid some underpaid youth from pressure washing my PPF and lifting an edge! It's so obvious you can't miss it.

Autoglym intensive tar remover worked a treat, especially considering mine was one of the first batch that had been sat in Derby gathering dust for a few months before delivery.

Yep totally agree and for any stubborn bits place a piece of soft kitchen towel over the area and soak in the Tar Remover, leave a moment or 2, lift off and wipe with soft microfibre towel.

Oh yes, that takes me back! 🤮

My dealer also had a story about removing the film on a new car once to find damage underneath so definitely worth removing that at collection.

This is great.

Although it reminds me of a family member's story about how they had a similar (albeit not as attractive/elegant) sign they used when they dropped off their premium German car at the franchised dealer for a service.

Upon collection later in the day they noticed, to their chagrin, the car had been subjected to the standard dealer wash 'experience'. Upon voicing their concerns with the staff they were told "oh sorry, hardly anybody who works out the back there speaks or reads English".
