GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

Just driven down from the Midlands to Poole to head off to Le Mans.

On the way down had 2 acknowledgements of my subtlety stickers up car..

First one was arriving at a dual carriageway roundabout, I had to give way to a BMW coming in from the right at speed... He gunned it off the roundabout and weirdly slowed down allowing me to catch up and pass... On the way by he had his window open with a thumbs up, a 👌 and a huge smile on his face.

2nd one was slowly heading down in traffic into Poole and 4 lads in a mini convertible stared and point first at the car and then looking down at the graphics on the side smiling profusely.

It's a happy inducing car!

More Supra confusion as I parked up to visit my Mum at her nursing home. Bloke who works there (former Celica 5th gen owner, as it turned out) saw the car, speculated about how fast it must be and commented that he thought I must be his new boss with a car like that!

I explained what it was, the story of how the UK allocation sold out in ninety minutes, and what it cost. He seemed rather upset that he’d recently spent £28k on a Vauxhall Mokka given that revelation, happy though he was with his new car…

Just got back from Malta, I have family there and had various meet ups with them at different times as there are a fair few.
One of my cousins husbands has a 4x4 that he loves so I was asking him about it.
He asked what I had and when I told him he said he had not heard of it, asked to see a picture.

“Oh a supra”

Queue the Toyota/Subaru colab story explaining it has a boxer engine etc.

It's sad here in Belgium, in 7 months I only had some recognition once from someone who really knows the car (a tuned CTR owner). Are car people so scarce around here... I haven't met anyone who knows what a GR86 is. A colleague who claims to be a huge car guy was convinced it's a Mazda and I must be mistaken.
Porsche people seem not to be interested (status cars, they don't give a s*** about a cheap Toyota). Miata people don't even look up, they seem to have bought their cars because it's a cheap convertible, not because they are car people and like lightweight sportscars.
I start to understand why Belgium is only getting so few cars in comparison with Germany for example, there's just no intrest.

Shocking news this morning as someone actually knew it was a GR86 rather than a Celica or Supra. Bloke at the fuel station came over to complement the colour!

A woman asked if I wanted to swap mine for hers, a 15 year old Fiesta with more dings and scrapes than a fairground dodgem, I politely declined.
A telecom engineer that came to the house in the week was very complimentary about it particularly the colour (EB)

Got a compliment from some 12 years olds.

“Aye that’s a leng whip bruv”
Had to look up "leng" not gonna lie.

For the benefit of those of us born after 2010:

"“Leng” is a slang term used in British street culture to describe something or someone that is extremely attractive. It is a heightened version of the term “peng,” which is already a slang term for something or someone that is attractive.

This term can be used to describe males, females, inanimate objects or situations, and is typically used to emphasize (sic - Yank spelling innit) just how attractive or impressive something or someone is. The use of the term “leng” suggests that the thing or person being described is not just attractive but exceptionally so."

Positive, then!
