GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

My piss-taking mate, for the first time in his life, didn't have a bad word to say about my car. His favourite thing is the Android Auto .

The worst my other piss-taking mates could say was "It's a bit blue isn't it".

I offered them a seat inside but declined. They're a bit lardy and I don't think they fancied their chances of getting in or out without injury

To which the only suitable retort is "a bit like those films your missus* is in".

Or perhaps not.

*Substitute "mister" for "missus* if necessary, according to sexual orientation.

First few months I didn't get much feedback. Lately I have.

Was sitting at lunch yesterday, colleague of mine saw me park in the morning and said "I was wondering whose car that was, nice man".
The whole table started to listen and chimed in. One guy asked how much it had cost, I asked "what do you think?" He said "200.000€?"
Clearly he doesn't know * about cars but some people do seem to think it's something reaally exotic :D
"Yours for 150,000€ as I'm feeling generous" ;)

Feedback from my tradesman today: someone's earning too much money!
Maybe he thought it was 200k as well 🤷‍♂️

Had the infamous 'is that a Supra!?' at a christening on Sunday. Don't think he realised there was a new model out. First question after i said it's the new GR86: 'does it have a turbo now!?' ..

I bless you in the name of the manual gearbox, the N/A engine, and the holy Toyoda 🙏 amen!

This Gen Z and their obsession with Turbo

When I collected my car the sales person couldn't get the windows to work via the fob (they were working yesterday he said) so a spotty yoof spanner monkey comes out to have a look and got it working and said "it needs a turbo". I put him straight.

Came out of the gym the other morning & one of the running clubs had just finished, couple of the lads were taking pictures of the car 😃 it did put a rather big smile on my face.

Parked up at work and our payroll lady thought it was a Porsche, at least she knows how much I get paid so didn't comment on that 🤣

That's quite a statement for the understated Magnetite :)

Delivery driver had a good look at mine, asked if it was a Supra.

Had a thumbs up and a flash from someone driving some Alfa saloon thing.

Heard some kids talking outside just now. Peered outside to see three young lads walking past, one of them taking pics of the car. Ring doorbell picked them up saying "What is it?", then looking at the back, "86".

I nearly shouted out of the window, "That's TOYOTA GR86 to you, boy....now be off with you!", like some automotive Scrooge. But of course, being 12-13 year old kids, they were probably harder than me, and most likely armed, so one didn't want to risk a shanking.

This reminds me - not long after I bought my GT86 (which in turn was not long after they first went on sale) I parked up on the road close to my city centre office (at the time). There was a couple of dishevelled-looking gentlemen who walked past and stopped nearby who I assumed were homeless; I genuinely wasn't stereotyping here as they had sleeping bags with them rolled up and tucked under their arms.

One of them said to the other " you don't see many of those about", and the other asked "why, what is it?". "LAMBORGHINI" the first one replied.

As I locked the car and walked by them I said "oh it's only a Toyota not a Lamborghini". The first bloke looked me in the eye, deadly serious (and actually looking quite offended), and said "don't be daft mate, I know a Lamborghini when I see one."

They might shit their pants if they ever saw what the real Supra looks like.
