GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

I caught part of a nature programmer a few weeks back about urban foxes and they had footage of them jumping up onto cars:oops: Which is something I never expected a fox to do. They also showed the fox hiding scraps of food at the bottom of the windscreen just where the bonnet covers the wiper blades the food was being pushed under the trailing edge of the bonnet. So if you ever get s strange smell of rotting food.....

Thought I’d comment on other’s feedback so far…..I admit this is only a few weeks in and not that many miles covered. So mixed bag so far - I’ve had definite rubber necking from what I would think are people in the know who recognise the GR86 but I still think the majority of people don’t have a clue what it is and therefore it sort of goes unnoticed. 2 examples of the latter- I showed a friend of mine a pick of the car (albeit from the side) and he said “ah yes a Nissan 350z”! And a colleague of mine (who is into cars and loves the GR86) told me that another colleague had mentioned to him that they’d seen me driving “an old sports car”! I have to say I’m quite liking the fact that only real petrolheads know what it actually is!

Was coming home the other day through a 40mph average speed camera stretch. So there I am at 41mph about to (very slowly) overtake a very shiny new red Fiesta and I can already see the "youth" looking in his door mirror at the rare loveliness of my GR86.

He starts to even point into his door mirror, nudging his lady passenger.. As I get closer I try my best not to turn my head to the left as I know he's bouncing in his seat.

As I get far enough away, I can see him in the door and RV mirror pointing and gestating to his passenger with apparent glee.

Out of the 40mph and he whizzes right up behind me with his passenger now taking photos.

We got filmed by a teenager. Primary school kids thought it was a Lamborghini! Kids love the colour.
I told none at work that I got a new car but I think because it it electric blue, 5 guys came and congratulated me, they did not even ask if it was mine. (I had a blue gt86 before)
In the past I got countless compliments on my gt86 and I assume we will get similar ones in the coming years.

I unfortunately don't own a GR86 but reading this post has reminded me of an incident I didn't mention when I posted my views after an unaccompanied test drive of the Toyota GR86 from dealer Harry Feeney in Blackpool in November.

My test drive eventually took me onto the M55. I was driving in the first lane when a 72 plate Porsche Carrera 4S passed me then pulled in front of me and slowed down. I then entered the second lane and passed the Porsche and subsequently a lorry. On returning to the first lane the Porsche pulled alongside and the driver was looking at the car then nodded and accelerated away.

I thought smiling, I'm driving a rarer car!

Got a smile and 👍from some school kids (a change from the usual 🤬 and a ☝️) whilst I was out on the Birthday test drive with my son in the red JRT demo car 😎

Your birthday or your son's @AndyRC ?

Many happy returns - to you and/or him!

Not had much more but when it was in the detailers, he said loads were commenting on it, how rare it was etc. Some even saying you probably wouldn't see another. Plenty of interest online about it. Only seen one GT86 Aero past me and the second he saw it, he knew and acknowledged it.

Still get be11ends following too close as if to race. Never in anything fast, still always something NPC.

Nice, I like this a lot!

I saw two GT86s on my weekend travels and received thumbs ups from both.
That’s nuts - I can go for months over here without seeing a GT86 on the roads … (sunny Northern Ireland)

So my car arrived yesterday evening.. and its all on my mind rt now. This morning amazon delivery guy walks up my drive.. and here I am hoping for my 'fresh whip burv' moment, keenly noticing his eyes.. nope.. never happened!

Had to go to Screwfix last night, in rather an emergency. As I was leaving, a car came roaring up my backside. So close, all I could see were his crappy blue LED washer jets. This was on one of those big industrial estates which tend to attract the local chavs (big wide ring road, lots of roundabouts, generally pretty empty after 7pm or so), and given that it was lashing with rain, I didn't particularly fancy having this dickhead joining me via my boot, so I quickly pulled over, let him pass, and pulled out behind him. Turned out it was a modified GT86 (which is odd, as the washer jets aren't even visible from the front) so whether he fancied trying to goad me into a play or something I'm not sure, but I wasn't really in the mood, having been in rather a rush to get home and spend my evening fixing a leaking dishwasher. I left him to it.

Today however, whilst I was out topping up the screenwash, one of my neighbours from several doors up (I don't know him all that well, but he commented on my GT86 last year) stopped as he drove past and complimented me on the car and the "lovely colour". Actually said "that's the GR isn't it?" so perhaps he is also a man of culture. Drives an AMG Merc of some sort, so obviously into cars himself.

Got a nod and smile from a hot women today! 🤭

Not sure if it was for the car or me, but were I not in a relationship I would've headed to the nearest car park to woo her with some donuts as is traditional petrolhead courting behaviour.

"That's a Celica isn't it?"

I just rolled with it, "yeah its the new one mate" (y)

Honestly, you will get blank looks trying to explain what it is and why it's called that, been there with the old car.

We need a poll to see how many times its called a Supra, Celica or MR2.

Very appreciative nodding and thumbs up from a pair in a MK4 Supra today before they flew past me on the M40 (y)

I went to the Collecting Cars Coffee Run at Silverstone this morning. On the way back on the M1 had a latest gen 911 GT3 catch up with me at a great speed, go to overtake, and then slow down alongside me to take a look at my car. Got a thumbs up from the driver before he put his foot down and disappeared into the distance.
