Thread to discuss fuel efficiency of the GR86.

Please use real world fuel consumption where possible (fuel used vs miles), as the one reported by the car may not be accurate.

You can adjust the choice in the poll at any time.

Feel free to share your driving habits and tips that help you with improving efficiency or performance of the car.

We are at 9.3L/100, 6AT, for its life so far of 1600 KMs

It is going down slowly as it was indicating pretty high when we got it so expecting it to get better ....hopefully

Mainly daily use, for comparison the 1.5 ZR Yaris was 5.9 for its 18000 kms doing the same commute

This is a useful website for tracking your MPG:

Funnily enough, the distribution of real MPG roughly falls in line with the poll options I've created, with 30 mpg (imperial) being the mean.

Hopefully we'll get more representative data with 200+ UK owners on the forum, as Fuelly only has data for 14 GR86 users, all in NA.

I personally use Fuelio on my phone to track my car spending and MPG.

24.2 MPG over the first fill up, and I haven't been driving like a maniac either.

I suspect that my dealer fuelled up with regular fuel, as my fuel economy shot up to 30 mpg from the moment I put in Momentum 99.

My dash readout is showing about 31mpg at the moment but it feels like a tank doesn't last long. But I'm determined not to worry about it too much while breaking the engine in. When I hit 1k miles I hope to change the oil, reset the average and see how it goes from there.

My average reading says 31mpg after 650ish miles. V Power + 1/2 a tank of whatever the dealer put in. A 160 miles drive consisting of around 60 miles of A road and 100 motorway took the gauge from full to one bar over half.

c.170 mile trip today down to the Suffolk coast. Generally light traffic, cruising at speed limits, indicated 34.5 on the computer. This was 99% under 4k RPM.

Thanks, that's reassuring, as I didn't think I was overly heavy-footed and I'm not revving the engine beyond 4k rpm either.
I've set my warning buzzer to 5.5k and I've not been over that. Given the book says it should do 32mpg so isn't that far off. My brother came home for Christmas and his average is 37mpg. If I got that I'd be very happy. I'm still taking it easy and getting used to the car. Coming from a bike all year, engine braking is quite weak but good for keeping momentum. Done just over 500 miles but that will calm down next month while it will be back to normal commuting (~100 mile a week) then a week when I get it detailed and coated.

I filled up for the first time today (dealer put 1/2 tank in). The low fuel light had just come on and the dash read 15 miles remaining. Only managed to get 42 litres in with a capacity of supposedly 50 (not allowing for whatever the filler neck holds). I'm guessing the dash gives you a pretty decent reserve.

On a trip of just over 100 miles the dash claims just over 36mpg. Quickly up to speed limits everywhere and almost all below 4k.

I've not seen a genuine over 30mpg yet. Although it is creeping quicker to it on longer runs. Short runs and round town really hurt it but so did the vRS. Going to run it to fuel light to see what I get to a tank. So far I'm expecting about 250-260miles.
