GR86 GR86 - The “I’m thinking of cancelling / did cancel my order” thread

Just back from testing the Yaris... What a fun little thing that is, I totally get it!! Turbo whistle and bags of torque was pretty hilarious and plenty of room for the kids / can switch the front airbag off so they could go in the front. Weirdly high driving position and obviously a totally different proposition to the 86 though. That demo car wasn't the one, it showed it's 5k demo miles proudly and had a broken front grill.

Also on the way out I noticed their Supra demo .....is a manual! 🤯 I was pushed for time and for the sake of my wallet decided to not turn back round and ask for the keys. I'm not sure I could stomach another 6 month + wait for a new car again either!

That's a decent photo, pair of them parked up like that (with the other Supra nosing in!)

Is that an orange Supra or are my eyes deceiving me.

Is that an orange Supra or are my eyes deceiving me.

@doogle83 mentioned it a few pages back:

Ooohhh tell us more 🧐

It's all a bit sudden, I spent a lot of last week looking into upgrades for the MX-5 and the full shopping list was about 1.25 times what I paid for the car, and I started to lose sight of why I bought it. Also, I was getting hacked off having to try and speak to small businesses who don't understand email or phones and why they exist. So I turned my attention back to the Alpine which has been sat at the back of my head since I last drove one about a year ago, but it was in a gale and with flooded roads, so not really the ideal conditions!

This drive was a lot better, the car is nice inside (compared to the 5) and I like how it looks, but I know this can be marmite. It has the right amount of power (I'm starting to believe that anything over 300hp is too fast to enjoy on the road). It's planned to arrive in December, Alpine are very confident that it won't be delayed as Alpines have priority in terms of resources as they are more profitable than a Clio etc.

This is the spec:

I'm not going for the S as I don't think it's needed. The standard one has enough for the road and odd track day

I'm still in the line of an Emira, but I don't think that will happen until next summer with the delays they are having. So I can make that decision nearer the time (I'm quite tempted to sell my place in the queue, unless I get a very good price for the Alpine). I'm also going to stick with the order for the GR, as that's not due until early '24, so I can also make my decision nearer the time.

I'm hoping the Alpine will be as good as everybody says, it's always hard to tell on such a short drive, I'm also hoping that the economy doesn't tank to the point where sports cars are worthless as I suspect out of the 3 cars I'm 'involved' with I think the residuals will be the worst. It's mostly a frivolous purchase, but the monthly repayments aren't that far from what they were on my Civic, so I hope that the fact it's another 2 seater doesn't stop it from being used as much as I would like!

I've sadly just cancelled my order so someone who is awaiting a white manual might get my one that's been sitting in Derby since July! I've lost any excitement with the lack of information and further delays! Also different personal circumstances compared to when I ordered back in April, where a £30k sports car doesn't now seem as sensible so will be sticking with my fiesta ST for now!

Didn't fancy having a go at flipping it for £10-15k then?

Is that realistic ?
Motorway are only offering £24k on the demo car currently registered in the UK.
I still have my order in, expected delivery October (yeah right), but I'm sticking with my Nismo now so in two minds whether to cancel or flip the GR.

I think +£5k is a realistic minimum, looking at how used GR Yaris' have sold and there's far fewer GR86s to go around.
