GR86 GR86 - The “I’m thinking of cancelling / did cancel my order” thread

At this point I feel quite invested on both sides of that arguement!

...it might actually mean the wife leaves as well, and then 1 seat is just fine! :ROFLMAO:
Might be fine, BUT, if she leaves you will be lucky if you can afford a bus ticket let alone a GR86 ( she‘ll want half of that too) 😳🤣

I thought you might! :ROFLMAO:

Well, I've finally done it, my order is cancelled 😭

This is the reply I got from Toyota when I asked what the cancellation process was:

"I'm very sorry to hear that you wish to cancel your order for the GR86. We do understand that we have not been able to uphold our usual standard of service due to the extremely high demand for the GR86 and we do apologise for the disappointing experience.

Please feel free to respond to this email to confirm you would like me to process your cancellation, once confirmation from you is received it will take 3-5 working days for your reservation fee refund to reach your account."

And here was my reply just now:

"Yes, I was surprised that the online buying process wasn't as good as expected, but it could easily have been eased by contacting the people with deposits down, as promised in the original confirmation emails.

The delays then inevitably became online rumours as nothing was coming through from Toyota to explain the issues.

I think that a statement made to those with orders pending would make a big difference as there are plenty of other people who have either cancelled already or are seriously considering their options.

So, as sad as I am to write this, please cancel my order and process my deposit refund as soon as you can."

I'm not in the mindset to cancel although I have no indication of a delivery time other than "probably 2023" here's my thoughts FWIW.

It's zero risk to stay with it.

Take a test drive when its available and if you like it then great, keep it. Not convinced by the test drive then get a 100% refund. Still on the fence after a test drive, wait until you get yours, drive it for a couple of weeks and if you don't like it get 100% refund. Or if you know you don't like after the test drive stay with it and flip when yours arrives - yeah I know there are some very upstanding members who said they abhor those types and wouldn't lower themselves, fair play to you, but a quick profit is tempting for me. The other aspect to flipping is that if by the time you car does arrive and cars have already been flipped and the appetite for cars at a premium has gone and there is no more profit to be had then hand it back and get 100% refund.

It's a no lose situation for me.

Yup, it seems like a backwards step there which was why I was so keen to sit in a demo and check she was happy in the back.... Obviously Toyota been zero use on making that happen.

Seems crazy when the other GR cars have the option but there are some pretty explicit warnings in the user manual about it.

Tbf she said she felt like she was in a cave :ROFLMAO:

I saw this too and assumed it was Toyota covering their back rather than a suggestion that the air bag can’t be turned off 🤷🏻‍♂️ Be daft if it can’t be given you can turn them off in the GT.

What was the time scale from asking to that email? I'm not cancelling, just curious.

Sorry to hear that you've been moved to cancel, although I bet the MX5 was part of that decision making process, as I'm in exactly the same situation. How far into the process where you?

I tried to convince myself of that but the Supra has isofix latches and pages in the manual on the correct car seats to use. The Yaris user manual has this section which is totally different to any of the wording or guidance in the 86 manaul.

I cancelled yesterday morning and it was all confirmed today, very quick tbf to them. They were very apologetic that the buying experience wasn’t up to standard but that’s life, I’d buy another Toyota but I’d want to buy from a dealership so I have a point of contact and someone with a vested interest in providing good customer service.

Is this the cause of the delay? No switch to deactivate the pass airbag?

Interesting! Having expected my car to arrive in July I sold my GT… only to hear about the delays a couple of days later. I’ve had to buy an old 4 door Fabia in the meantime as a run around… looks like I’ll be keeping it now when the GR arrives! Having a 14 month old as a front passenger was fine but regularly popping him in and out the back of GT/GR is literally a pain in the back!
