GR Yaris Seating postition really that high?

I'm 6' 4" (193cm) and got my car last Thursday. Don't have an issue with the driving position at all - very comfy and my head doesn't touch the roof. I'm in proportion, so I guess it depends a lot on whether one has a bias towards a greater torso length.

I came from a GT86, so very different driving positions but I'm enjoying the more upright seating - compared to the GT86 where you really did sit low. I did love the GT86 driving position, but enjoying the change of view in this one :-)

One thing I noticed after going along the same stretch of road back-to-back in my Yaris compared to a friend’s Z4 (similar low seating position to the 86, I imagine) was just how poor the sight lines were over crests etc. in the BMW.

It really forced you to slow down in the Z4 where in the Yaris you were able to see down the road and not have to lift as much. The difference was surprising.

Maybe Toyota do know what they were doing with the Yaris’ seats after all.

Driven a little further in it now, and yes i am pleased with it....

The driving position has improved and just feels a little bit more right to me....

So money well spent, now what about an exhaust......

Good to hear! Im also a taller lad and as I mentioned earlier in the thread I also liked it on the test drive, but all the lowering made me a tiny bit nervous. Thanks for sharing🖖

finally. Airbag, seat heating, rails...close to stock...and a huge gain of around 6,5 cm

I used original Recaro rails on the Schläppi console.

The suspension secrets is for sale now ;)

Not sure if already mentioned but my mate had more of an issue with headroom than me, and he’s 4”/10 cm shorter at 6’3”/190cm. It’s because he’s long body/short legs and therefore didn’t have the seat all the way back and as the roof comes down toward the windscreen, had effectively less headroom than me.

So I scoffed at people complaining about headroom at first, as I’m a circus freak and had no issue. But it’s not that simple, only way to know is to try it out.

I’m definitely going to get seat lowering brackets at some point. Be great on track to be lower in the car where visibility isn’t an issue.

if one could live without rails, you could gain another 3 cm.

For me the main issue was not the height, is was the view towards passengers side. so removal of the rear mirror (street or track) would be the biggest improvement in view. def. cheaper than 2 new Recaros ;)

The seating position was an issue before I tested the GRY, based on reviews. I did, however, find it to be really good and with good visability (after I got the mirror raisor) on Norwegian narrow and twisty B-roads. During the winter I did a number of icetrack-days and had to compromise the seating position to make room for the helmet. So I’ve just ordered the DNA seat lowering kit. 3 cm down should be just right.

Having fitted the DNA kit for the drivers side (I thought I bought both sides…) I’m really pleased. The seating position is now pretty much perfect. Still high enough for great vision, and low enough for feeling «right». And having gotten much better vision between MM-unit and mirror, which no longer is an issue. I am 6.0 / 184 cm and now have a bit over 3 inches / 8.5 cm head clearance, and 1.5 / 4 cm clearance with the helmet on. Without having to tilt the seat a bit to far, as I’ved had to do previously. The mounting eas a bit fiddly due to poor instruction, but with the help from JBCTRs video it went fairly well after a few trail and errors. Probably the best 300+ Euros you can spend on the car (apart from a few tanks of fuel).

I think @Onehp idea of fitting a spacer to the steering wheel and reclining the OEM seat further back is a good work around. I’m not especially tall (186cm) but I am finding my arms are too close to the steering wheel, which gives the sensation of a high up driving position, but my legs feel they are in a comfortable position. Perhaps when I get around to getting the wheel recovered I will fit the spacer.

sorted it!

worked out what to do not as "easy" as drivers side due to the memory latches for when you slide the seat forward but sorted in the end
Nice work! Do you have any pictures by chance? Like before and after, or just after? I started looking into the seat lowering brackets from few companies.

With Boes seat console and extended steering column - driving position is great but only downside is that now steering wheel is tad too high (for longer drivers) - would pferer it 2-3cm lower - world is not perfect.
