GR Yaris Seating postition really that high?

I like the driving position, if it went 20 mm lower it would be perfect, but the passenger seat is too high as it’s not height adjustable. My head touches the headlining in the passenger seat unless I tilt the seat back, but I’ve only been in there twice when mates were test driving (yep, only two mates).

The rear view mirror position is stupid, but easily fixable with a dremmel/file.

No problem with the driving position per se. 5’11” in old money, but another one with longer legs, 34-35” so I guess it works for me. I have a few inches of free space above my head.

The reason I put ‘per se’ is that while I can operate all the car controls perfectly and don’t bang my head off anything, the limited distance of the view out the back does annoy.

Even lowering the rear view mirror doesn’t extend the view very much. If I was a few inches shorter it might be okay (what do you think @Lauren?), but I guess it’s never going to be good with such a swooping roofline.

I wonder if removing the roof-mounter mirror entirely and fitting a small dash-mount one at the top of the infotainment display, Cobra style, might be a two-birds-with-one-stone thing?

6’0” (1.83m), no problem at all with standard seat height.

For a car with rally genes, height is ok. But too high as a track car. Imho

if the rear mirror was on another position, I would be ok with it too. there are other cars where I only have one finger left to the roof. but in the yaris with that mirror, you cant drive right corners / left for the lhd cars...so its kind of dangerous on street with cyclists. and when cornering fast you have to dive your head to see the street.

other cars have other mirror positions, thats ok then.

but you can change the mirror and seats, so one can handle it with some investment.

have been wondering what kind of tolerances there is in safety standards if car is rolled over and cabin space is reduced due to an impact.
I'm a normal length driver( 191cm with long spine) but would assume that if there was a big impact on the roof my head would not be that well protected.
I'd prefer having 10cm above head not 1cm..

I'm not sure where you'd put a mirror on the dash given the screen is there. The view out the rear mirror is limited to an extent, by the sloping roof line, but I find it perfectly adequate to see behind me, even at it's highest setting.

I’m 197 but can’t remember my head hitting the roof when I test drives the car. I must admit I was kind of distracted by the drive

After spending a couple weeks driving an FK8 Type R, getting the seat lowered in 100% my next mod. Probably do passenger seat too.

Your legs must be pretty long and your upper body pretty short.^^
Im 187 and i had like 2-3 cm to the roof. My body is pretty balanced.

Hey all! Thanks for all the replies, it really helped put things into perspective. I too am used to lower seating cars (Recaro's in Megane are pretty low, and I used to own a Porsche 928, however I am getting old (can't believe I'm typing this haha) and I actually might prefer a bit of a higher seat height. It's a shame I can't test drive one but oh well. Some of the aftermarket options you guys pointed out are really helpful and I will definitely pursue the aftermarket lowering bracket if I do find the seat too high :)

Once again thanks all, glad to be a part of the GR Family (Soon™ :ROFLMAO:)

Just for reference, I found I sat too high with my head (legs fine) but instead I installed a spacershop steering wheel spacer, then I can recline the backrest a lot more and find a good driving position without lowering the seat base...

Oh I have no experience with wheel spacers, I'm assuming a whole steering wheel column has to be removed?

In my testdrive i had no problem with the seat height. It felt not bad at all. The seats feel pretty comfortable. Im driving a Clio 3 RS Cup at the moment which should be pretty similar in seat height compared to your megane. I think you will feel alright in the Yaris.
The only problem for me is, that i cant wear a helmet with original height. So i have to buy a seat lowering kit.

Oh fair enough regarding the helmet part. I don't really track anymore so hopefully that is not an issue for me per se, can't wait until an upcoming car meet in my country, I heard that two Gr Yaris' will be attending, hopefully owners let me sit in them haha
