GR86 GR86 - Brake Upgrade Guide

Looks like I might have to put my hand in my pocket. Presumably they will match okay with the OEM discs? Unless they are lipped I figure they probably won't need changing just yet.

MX72 Plus- Approx £200 for the full set, shipped from RHDJapan. They'll be some import taxes/fees to pay as well.
RHDJapan have announced an addition 7% off, discount code on all items, until the 1st Aug:

Code: SuperTaikyuAutopolis

Big thanks to @Godspeed for customizing and supplying some RS 3 Megané Brembos, repainted in gold in a nod to the many gold brembo calipers of past JDM cars. Maybe not for everyone's tastes but they're right for me, also blue and gold together, come on.
How much were these fully fitted? Have you noticed improved brake performance?

Time for new disks and pads (or just time to buy them to have in the garage more so), after a couple of years and 22k miles, and I have contemplated all options.

For me, the car will never see a track, it commutes in all weathers in salty southwest Scotland and is no garage queen, as it's parked outside as the garage has bikes in it.

The car only ever does some fast country road driving, motorway jaunts or Euro trips (more of those in the planning).

So, balance of outgoing to benefit - I went with the following from Brembo -

Front disks - 09.A921.1X with pads - P.78.021X

Rear disks - 09.C662.1X with pads - P.78.018 (no x pads available for the rear)

I went with the Xtra range as the Sport range is still showing on websites as 'in development' for the GR86.

After some code cross referencing, I sourced the above from Autodoc for £330 delivered. This was just about buying something a little better than OEM.

Will report back when fitted.

I also have some higher quality Dot 4 and 5.1 brake fluids in the garage, just contemplating braided houses from either HEL or EBC but I am not really sure if I will ever feel the benefit of that investment, albeit only around £100.
Finally got around to having these new disks and pads installed the other day and I have not had the chance to take pics in daylight, as I am quite taken by the dimples in the disks. However, as a set up, and after scrubbing in, for the couple of hundred miles I have done in all weathers, my verdict is simply this - game changer. Compared to the standard disks and pads, they just have a great bite, life and give real confidence when scrubbing speed. I still have the Conti SC7s on the car in 225 width. For £330 parts cost, a great value upgrade.

Wasn't sure this deserved it's own thread so will post here. Looks like StopTech is going under.

I already have the Endless pads I bought a few months ago but as my OEM ones were actually looking okay, I decided to hold off fitting until my service at the end of this year. I was going to look around for a set of discs too, and have heard of StopTech as a decent go-to for this platform. I guess not anymore (unless it might mean some discounted stock).

Just ordered DBA 330mm rings that are compatible with the Reyland bells.

It will be the first time changing them over DIY so wish me luck.

I had really bizarre corrosion issues with the original Pagid discs so I’m hoping these will be a lot better given they’re coated.

I did this a week or so ago, its fine but get a rubber mallet ready to separate the bells from the old discs. Also would suggest using a wire brush attachment on a drillbit to get each face as clean as possible (please dont use it on your own face) when reattaching. Mine had a teeny bit of pitting that was quickly sorted

This is interesting as I feel that I need a better feel/confidence in the OEM brakes, but not sure I want the £££ of a BBK. Unless a set was coming back of a GR and was at a favourable price.
Did you go for the braided lines or just the Dot5.1?

I was wondering if any might know, having upgraded my brakes last year to the @Godspeed Mégane kit is it possible to fit 17's over them?

I wanna get some new wheels and given the current state of the roads which are liable to get worse, perhaps 17s with bigger tyre sidewalls would be prudent..

Love

I only upgraded the brake fluid, not the lines. Very happy with the set up. For the money, just gives that extra confidence when needed with zero fade.
