GR86 GR86 - Brake Upgrade Guide

After receiving the modified Front Discs from @Godspeed on Friday, I managed to get an ‘after-hours’ fitting appointment at HyperTech last night. I am pleased to report that all previous issues with rubbing at full lock have been resolved!
My thanks to all at Godspeed for their swift and professional customer care, and to Duncan at Hypertech for the ‘overtime’.

The last bit of DIY for this morning on the driveway, was to remove the OSF wheel and Hammerite the area of the wishbone where it had been rubbed down to bare metal. All Jobs complete for now. Normal cleaning will be resumed in the near future 😁

I think you’ve got that just right on all counts - well played
Thanks, I’m pretty happy with it as it sits now. I’ll probably look to get a slightly quieter exhaust in the new year (currently have a Remark axle back) though as it’s currently a bit too spicey for some tracks.

Went for a bimble in the GR86 today and whilst going through villages with the windows down (checking for untoward noises), I noticed a ticking/tapping sound bouncing back from buildings on the near side, whether from the front wheel of back wheel it was impossible to tell.
Another noise from the OSF was a whirring (like spinning a bicycle wheel by hand) when braking at any speed over around 20mph. Slow speeds produced no whirring.
The only thing I can see physically is a protruding clip (?) on the NSR caliper that the OSR doesn’t have. Could this be the source of the NS tapping?
I’m wondering if I should pop to a local garage and get the pads fitment checked, or am I being paranoid?
Appreciate any thoughts, especially from @Godspeed, regarding the noises.
See photo for protruding caliper clip at lower right section:

I didn't spot that. Ticking or tapping noises could easily just be a bit of stone or gravel stuck in the tyre tread. Irritating when it happens, I'd drive it a bit more and maybe swerve around a little when safe to do so, see if that helps anything get dislodged as the tread block moves around before I worried about the brakes.

Mine make the whirring noises, but that's down to the J hook discs. Totally normal.

I'd get a few miles done in them, and get them bedded in, then see.
An aftermarket brake kit is rarely going to be as quiet / complaint as the oem fitment in reality

As others have said the j hook grooves do produce some sound and also get a bit rumbly when very hot but it’s nothing to worry about. I think pads with tapered edges can help a bit but at the cost of some pad area.

Thanks for the confirmation wrt the whirring. 👍🏻
I’ve done my best to find the tapping source. It’s definitely coming from the rear wheel at a certain point in the rotation. From my recorded iPhone video it appears to be as the Boot Clamp passes those securing nut heads, but I think that’s just ‘perspective’ as the clamp hasn’t been moved at all? Could it be a bearing? Maybe after a few hundred miles it’ll go of its own accord… I’ll just monitor it until the Service in February.
Any huffing and puffing is me humping the bloody wheel around 😄

That extended Caliper clip still bothers my OCD though …

Morning
You will get some noise from grooved discs
The clip you see on the pad is a wear sensor , when the pads wear down to that point it makes an annoying screech sound to tell you the pads are low , quite primitive but the way a lot of pads are.
You will get noises ect as everything is bedding in , the fronts should be all done by about 400 miles , the rears could take twice as long as they don't get used as much as the fronts , so all seems normal during this process
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

Just realised I never posted a pic of my Reyland AP setup.

Looks perfect!
How much lower does the car sit than stock, and what is the rim size/spacer size? I'm looking at coilovers, ARP extended studs for spacers, as well as 225/40R18 tires for my 8 inch wide rims (once the OEM tires get worn out) and your setup seems very close to what I want to fill out the wheel arch.

And to stay on topic: I might also have to look at getting some new brakes now that i've seen yours..

Thanks 🙏, appreciate the compliment 😊

It’s about 1 inch lower, the default preset height of the HKS Hipermax coilovers.

Wheels are 18x8.5 ET38 and tyres are 225/40ZR18 Supersports. Camber is about 2 degrees rear and 2.2 front.

I fitted ARP studs while I was at it but went for standard length as I don’t need spacers and have to use internal drive nuts.

Anyone with the Godspeed kit notice a slight mismatch in the red between fronts and rear?

Just wondering if noticeable on the car, unlikely I suspect and hard to tell from pics but noticed straight out of the box in real life. The Meg 3rs fronts are more orangey and the rears are more red if that makes any sense!
