GR86 GR86 - Brake Upgrade Guide

What kit have you gone for Lauren? The one with Megane 3 RS calipers?

Didn't someone say they clip somewhere on full lock? Was that resolved?
That was an issue I had with mine. It was due to the difference in bell thickness/offset between the GT and GR (the kit was originally meant for the GT), which caused the discs to rub on the lower suspension arm at full lock. See earlier post here. It has all been sorted by Godspeed and the kits now take into account that difference. I’ve had no rubbing since I had the new discs fitted. Their customer service is absolutely fantastic and, being based in the UK, any problems are quickly ironed out.

The £999 one in the sale. So not the Megane caliper one. I trust what I have will be more than sufficient for what I need.
Nice choice. Have you gone for the floating or bolted ones?

I've gone for bolted as saw no advantage to floating discs.
I went for them because thay have more shiney bits and they make a 'whirrrrrrrrrrrrr' type sound when you brake (like a playing card in bicycle spokes). Yup, I'm that shallow - they call me Mr.Puddle down the Legion innit ... actually nobody does that, I just made it up, I don't even go down the Legion. Getting my coat ...

Me again. Has anyone installed the Godspeed kit themselves? I thought I could retain the front dust shield but the disc makes contact with it, no big deal to remove . Just trying to to see how best to deal with the rear dust shield now...

Hi
Just to clear up any confusion , the kit for the GT86 is basically our Impreza kit , as it bolts onto these and the BRZ , what we found at a later date , was the disc on Sonics kit touched the lower ball joint on lock , the lower arm on the GT86 is a pressed steel piece and quite big , the Impreza is alloy and small in comparison , so for the GT86 we reduced the offset of the bell by 1.5mm , bringing the disc away from the arm , so no shim washers are needed on the GT86 , the brackets bolt straight onto the hub , and the disc have plenty of clearance and do not rub
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

What is the difference between the godspeed 4 pot kit, and the godspeed 4 pot Megane 3 kit? What shape of (Ferodo) pads fit these kits?

I've noticed that my @Godspeed OSF Caliper chirps like a Cicada as the wheel is rotating at anything above a crawl. Like a playing card in a Raleigh Chopper spokes (70s reference there) when peddling uphill.
I'm hoping that it goes away as the pads get worn down a bit more - I've only covered 600 miles since fitting and the pads are still sat well against the discs so that not even a bit of paper can fit in between them. It's damned distracting when driving through town with the window open and all you can hear is 'fzzzz ... fzzzz ... fzzzz' bouncing back from the shopfronts (not to mention a little 'uncool')

This is always a problem with discs that have grooves. If your pads are not chamfered you can take a file to the edge and chamfer them. I had a set of Carbotech XP10's in another car and chamfering the edges helped no end with noise.

I finally got my Godspeed BBK on, bit of a faff with the rears, trimming the rear dust shield, but actually only took an hour including painting in cut edge.

Biggest issue was the rear discs stumping me somewhat as the holes were slightly too small to clear the shoulder on the studs, had to refit oem back on all four corners last weekend as I had a service appointment Monday. Anyway, quickly resolved by Godspeed and got them all on in a few hours the other day, just to bed them in now.

They are very quiet and feel oem/perfect so far…bolted two piece slotted disc and PFC pads.

Anyone experienced any pad knock off with this set up?

Any other options? Had a great day in the car today but the brakes look awful on the new wheels. Brakes fade and while it can be managed, I don't want to and if it's doing it now, it really will come Summer. Also need to find a garage I can trust somewhere in South Wales.

Why is there any faff with a BBK kit at this point? Had a kit from Wilwood for a MX5 previously and it was as simple as remove OEM and fit the new kit. I get when the GR was fresh out the box but after all this time why are owners having challenges fitting supplied kits?

Found another good alternative, powerbrakes (South African manufacturer, with good racing background), has a kit with 36/40 piston in a 326mm rotor. This kits moves the bias 0.36% backwards, similar to the Essex AP Racing Sprint (38.1/41.3 in a 299 rotor). This can provide the needed extra rotor braking plate mass without needing to modify rear brakes.

I was lucky enough to purshase these second hand, Stainless steel lines were brand new, what a difference, night and day looks and performance, fitted myself, very easy install, cutting dust shields was a chore but not rocket science
I would suggest to zip tie the stainless steel lines, they tend to move and kink otherwise.
