GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Rear seats and rear side panels out for a bit of shiny treatment. I suppose if one removes the front seats the access would be much better because this was not a fun job to do. Took multiple attempts to refit the panels and getting the metal loop on the seat cushions onto the bracket wasn't easy either.

But, with good work comes good reward, and it appears the sound deadening mats have improved / reduced the road sound in the cabin at most speeds. One mat + offcuts onto each seat area, 4 in each arch.

If the weather holds will have a look at the doors tomorrow. Got a set of old Pioneer speakers from another car, and want to have a peek at fitting them, as I will presumably need an adapter which I don't own.

Yeah, getting the rear seats refitted is a real joy, isn't it!

While waiting for someone to pay at the petrol station, I noticed that these are actually pistons. That’s a nice little touch from Toyota, how have I never noticed in a whole year 😅

Picked my car up this afternoon from my local dealer who were sorting out an annoying rattle for me. They had the car for over a week, which gave me concern that they would somehow damage it, and sure enough they’ve scuffed the bumper 😩 The scuff on the silver painted section has more or less polished out but they’re suggesting that the black plastic section may need painting. Has anyone had any experience of black textured plastic being sprayed? I’m worried it will look a bit obvious.
On the plus side, they have sorted out the rattle 🥳

My first question to them would be about a replacement part. Failing that then sometimes a warm heat gun can work to reshape the scuff or, if you are feeling proper DIY give it a go with some wet 1200/1600/2000 grit then restore the shine with a 1:1 solution of carpro perl (or similar).

They have agreed to rectify it, if I’m not happy with the result I’ll ask them to fit the bumper from their silver demo car. Their paint guy is in Thursday so I’m hoping I’m pleasantly surprised with what he can do.

Where was your rattle ?
It seemed to be coming from the rear window, I put up a separate post about it.

Did they tell you what the cause turned out to be??

Pickled up mudflaps from the dealer after they called to advise that they now have them in stock. Still undecided about fitting them, hoping to see them on a car or two at Jap Fest to sway me one way or the other.

Check mine out 👍

Finally fitted the K&N intake. I got a decent deal for about 440€ including the VAT and shipping, so why not give it a go? I liked that the K&N intake tube is the same diameter as the stock tube, so no check engine light and no need for a tune. Just fairly easy plug and play install. I was not looking for power (honestly I wouldn't be surprised if I lost some HP), my only motive was to get more intake noise. Which the intake definitely accomplishes, maybe more than I would like lol.

First impressions after 50 km drive: it is loud, like very loud. Videos don't do the justice.

It sounds stock when just cruising when you apply less than ~50% throttle, which is nice . The subjective sound volume linearly increases with how the throttle body opens up when above ~40 - 50% throttle. It literally starts to bark like your neighbors angry rottweiler when you abruptly press the gas pedal in mid range RPMs, where I really like the sound, revmatch downshifts are lovely. Full throttle above 5k RPM is more high pitched and really really loud, not yet sure if I like that or not. Maybe I feel a slightly better throttle response? But that might just be a placebo because I get the audio feedback of the intake now,

I was able to find these EU specced car videos with the K&N intake fitted. And as I mentioned, videos don't do justice in this case, it is very loud in the interior. Subjectively it is much louder than the fake engine noise and probably louder than majority of resonated/muffled catbacks.

For anyone interested:

Thank you 👍
Thanks for this useful information. My drivers side Mat has nearly worn through after 18k. By cm
Comparison I drove my minis CS 80k and the mats are hardly worn and the same on my 80k MR2. There real crap as standard.
May have to get my AC repaired as first priority it’s only flowing hot since yesterday.
Has anyone else has AC issues?
