GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Had a lovely drive out to the Dales on boxing day, just by myself. Went back and forth over the Buttertubs pass.
@Road_trip we wont have been that far apart tbh.
Really dry roads and it was very quiet, made for some good driving.

Went out again today with my wife, good drive, bit busier and we called in for a pub lunch in Masham.

Shame we missed a meet up and photo opportunity. ;)

Had a drive up to Tan Hill on Friday, back down the Buttertubs and then coffee in Hawes (unfortunately we were in the wifes car :cautious: as no.1 son was with us)

Went to the Motorist today, was a bit too busy for my liking and I also had to be pushed out of the grass / mud by some very kind people.
Won't be making that mistake again.

Fitted some bonnet Gas Struts. OEM nuts were a bit of a PITA - The OS upper bonnet retaining nut was so over torqued that it broke my 12mm socket but, was no match for a cordless impact wrench. I will have to get some touch up paint for the nuts; plastic caps will do for now though.
[Edit: Youtube video of operation now uploaded.]

I recall a similar issue when I did mine - overtight nuts, not a broken socket. Good that you had a solution. :)

Nice, but I am not sure I will buy bonnet struts this time around. I bought them for the last car, but I often wondered why I'd bothered; I open the bonnet once in a blue moon to fill up the screen wash or give the oil a check, and that's about it.

It is a nice-to-have though, especially as my girlfriend's much more mundane Kia Sorento has them (mind you, the bonnet on that weighs probably as much as the entire GR86).

Also today. Added some CF decoration to the cockpit and a couple of decals elsewhere.

Goodness gracious ol’ chap! You mean to tell me you don’t while away an hour or so in your engine bay with a blower, a bunch of cloths, some GT85 spray and a bottle of diluted (1:4) Carpro Perl? A ‘shiny engine is a happy engine’ as they say - okay, maybe I just made that bit up but, I do love a good buffing of my hoses, pipes and lumpy bits every now and again.

No. I once have might given the engine bay a going over with some AG engine cleaner and then hosed it down, but even that felt a bit much. It's not a beautiful Ferrari V12 or something that deserves to be on display, so as long as it's working, I'm more than happy to only bother cleaning the bonnet it sits under for now!
