GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Bought my just turned seventeen year old a racing sim [cheap XBox compatible] for Christmas - so they can teach themselves to drive… [all the driving instructors are booked till 2025]

crossed my mind I could use it to learn/improve my driving. [DRIFTING!!]

Is FH5 the best “GR86 Simulator” or is there something better for X-Box?

Needs to support three pedals and a manual box. Thanks.
That's nice, what device did you buy if you don't mind asking?

FH5 is very arcade'y, less realism focused. But it does come with difficulty settings that let you tweak that more towards realism.
If realistic driving is what you want then Forza Motorsport (otherwise called Forza 8) would probably be better? It is based on racing tracks, while FH5 is open world (set in Mexico, FH4 is open world set in UK so you can drive on the left side  ).

Sadly, it looks like Forza Motorsport only has the Subaru BRZ. Horizon 5 has BRZ and the Toyota GR86 but you will find it hard to obtain one - they are both only available through in game events, one of which just ended - for GR86 (that's why I was grinding in game so hard to get the car) and another ending today for BRZ.
Another event allowing you to get these cars is probably a few weeks away. You still can get the car through in game auction system, but you would have to grind even more game currency to purchase one - people are selling these cars for 20 mil CR 😭

So, in short:
Forza Horizon 5 - open world, set in Mexico, has both BRZ and GR86, but they are hard to unlock
Forza Horizon 4 - open world, set in UK, doesn't have either of these cars
Forza Motorsport 8 - racing sim, set on racing tracks, has BRZ so far, probably easiest to drive one

Also Xbox GamePass has all these games, so try a subscription for a month and see which game you like, instead of buying them all outright.

edit: it looks like at least FH5 supports pedals and shifter, you just have to enable manual+clutch in settings

Heard good things about Forza Motorsport. GamePass recommendation (y) (y) good advice. Thank you.

Logitech G920 wheel, pedals & shifter + Playseat Challenge. Hopefully it’ll reduce the number of driving lessons the kids need.

That looks good, I wonder if the seat is as nice as the one in GR86!

Not today, but Boxing Day (so two days ago, I think? Who knows at the moment WTF day it is): I've realised that I often get an excellent drive when I take myself off for a late evening showing at my local-ish cinema.

It's a combination of 12-mile/25 mins drive, the excellent driving roads (I'm in a very rural location), and the minimal traffic. I generally prefer to do this alone.

Of course the solo cinema visit is a bonus, especially if you've been with relatives all day/two days, as lovely as they are.

(I did a double bill. Godzilla Minus One and Ferrari. One of these was incredibly affecting with a real emotional punch (and quite possibly my favourite film of the year out of the lot of films I've seen); the other wasn't.)

:ROFLMAO: Godzilla Minus One your winner on the night?

Fully decontaminated and coated my "new" BBS wheels with Pyramid Car Care Alloy Armour today.

Was a rather painful experience due to the relentless weather but I'm glad I've done it before getting them on the car tomorrow.

I'm pretty pleased with the results, considering the one pictured was in the worst shape of the set (curb damage visible on the left edge).

Correct!

Ferrari is a decent enough film and I enjoyed it but 'G-1' was absolutely fantastic.
I could write the exact same post. A 25 minute rural drive to the closest Odeon. Also, I love going myself, so I can actually watch a film without the constant 'what was that, huh, how did he/she' type questions throughout! 😁🤦

I picked up a set of these yesterday. Some of the wheels will require a bit of TLC, but not a full refurbishment (they've had that not too long ago).

They're genuine BBS 3-piece wheels, 18x8 ET33, so should sit pretty flush (around 21mm out from stock). I'll be reusing the stock tyres and tpms sensors.

No doubt they'll be a bit marmite, being gold German OES wheels for a German car. :ROFLMAO:

If all goes well, they should be on the car tomorrow. I'll give them a good decon and ceramic coat today if the weather improves.
Do you mind me asking what sort of ballpark figure did you pay for the alloys @beorg .. I like them

Sure, it was £600 for the set, and it came with all original BBS parts (barrels, centre pieces, centre caps, bolts, dust caps)

They were in a better condition than most other used BBS sets I've found for sale, but definitely not perfect.

Some were quite a bit cheaper, but if you look into the process of properly refurbishing split rims like this, it quickly adds up (probably to around £100/wheel), with no guarantee of getting them done right.

BBS RS803 is the model here and it was originally sold as an option for an Audi TT mk1. They're 18x8 with an ET33 offset.

There are two other used BBS wheels with a 5x100 PCD worth considering:
  1. BBS RC330 18x8 ET32 - fitment should be fairly similar to the BBS RS803s
  2. BBS RC336 18x7.5 ET38 - these would be 10 mm out from the stock setup, but still about 10 mm short of flush fitment

New BBS wheels with 5x100 PCD:
  • BBS XR 18x8 ET36 - good fit at 17mm out from stock, but these are heavy at around 12.5kg a wheel
  • BBS SR 18x8 ET36 - same as above
  • BBS CH 18x8.5 ET30 - over £2k new and would poke your eye out without a significant negative camber

Here's a bonus picture taken shortly after they were fitted today:

They're sitting very flush, and the 215 Michelins have a nice rim protection, meaning the lip isn't exposed at all.

It goes without saying that I'm looking for the right set of springs or coilovers now! :ROFLMAO:

Returned from Aberdeenshire yesterday after having the most entertaining drive north in biblical rain on Wednesday. To say it was wet, would be an understatement. The GR86 on CC2s performed flawlessly and you could tell by some drivers reactions that they thought I was some idiot pushing my luck in a sports car. I may have course been so, but I was doing it with the best grip and water flare of a speedboat behind me all the way. Impressive to say the least. Home before today's weather events thankfully...

Many thanks for the comprehensive answer 👍🏻

Coffee and catchup with a fellow GR enthusiast earlier, chance to get a bit of drive in between the rain and more rain.

Certainly happy to swap to Vector 4seasons before heading up (also in Aberdeenshire just now), it's been weeks since a good break in the wet weather to actually push the car but it happily potters about in the pissing wet.
