GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Well. This post has aged incredibly badly.

Just had a sheepish phone call to tell me that while the car was sat in the carpark at the dealers, someone in a van has reversed and caught the front wing, damaging it. Not huge damage, but enough that it now needs body repair. They have a body shop on site, so it will all be sorted, but it means I'll be without the car at least until the end of the week. Further explained the complication that the car was ceramic coated at KDS, so I expect that will also need to be sorted as well.

Why cant I keep my ****ing mouth shut

Gutted

I don't trust dealers at all, had a Focus ST damaged before at the Ford stealership in Guildford, which is right next to Inchcape Guildford actually. Same setup, tightly packed in.

I know there's a 10 yr warranty with Toyota servicing to be had, but I'm tempted to forgo that so I can let a decent specialist do the work away from what is a total shit show of a car park.

Only a car though, its there to be used. If the repair shop is any good you wont even notice it.

Gutted for you!! 😭

I had similar feelings and decided against sensors. The less time my car is with the dealer the better. I wouldn't let them wash it, so definitely didn't want them taking a drill to the bumper!

That said, this isn't really their fault and could've happened in any car park I guess. Just sods law as you weren't even sure about getting it done (n)
Yeah true. To be honest, I'm not even that worried about the damage - he said it was just a ding and a scratch, and they've done body work for me in the past which was fine. But because it was coated, that means there's the added complication that that needs to be sorted as well, and I'm not sure how easy that is to rectify on a partial basis. Luckily they know the place that did that, so said they will contact them for guidance.

Just a ball ache I don't want to have to worry about right now :/

Really sorry to hear that.

I'm always nervous when I leave my car at the dealership for servicing .

Hope your car is repaired to your satisfaction.

I took my expensive motorhome back down the country to get some warranty work sorted and whilst backing it out of the workshop they managed to put a huge crease in the garage door. Cue me having to get the train back home, them repairing the damage and getting the train back again the week after to pick it up! I wasn't very happy but the repair was excellent and they paid for the train tickets and some compensation.

Just had another call from the manager.
- Good news is that they are going to replace rather than repair the wing, as it's still an almost brand new car. And they have also already reached out to KDS, so will sort out the repair then get it over to them for the polishing/coating to be applied. That in itself is a load off my mind.
- Bad news is that means a couple of weeks waiting for parts.

They did actually offer to give me another GR86 as the loan car (currently in a CH-R), and I was about to take that offer - but then I declined. The GR86 is really a weekend toy for me, but the next couple of weekends I wouldn't really get a chance to use it much anyway. During the week, the only driving I do is the occasional pop to the shops, so I figured I may as well keep the CH-R and save myself a bit of fuel (and besides, I am actually quite interested in them, so will treat it as an extended test drive). Had I been in the Aygo they usually give me, I would probably have taken the offer though.

This must be immensely frustrating and I hope it gets rectified to your absolute satisfaction.

I had a creeping sense of dread as I started to read this post, and actually said "for f**k's sake" out loud.

Now people are looking at me funny on the packed train. Some of them are children. Some of the people look quite frightened.

Anyway, from earlier today - finally:

Car feels BRILLIANT now. Planted all the time. Engine hungry for revs. Nice and refined on all but the most horrible roads. Absolutely love it.

11c outside, sunshine, 45 minute blast and 850 miles on the tyres... All skittishness has totally gone. Even in track mode, darting around all the pot holes, the car was totally planted the entire time.

Bloody love this car! 😊
Exactly how I felt yesterday during a similar length drive that included some of my favourite bends. 👍

I love this series of bends when no other cars are about. Ended up doing them twice. 😁

I'd personally check the colour match very carefully, not sure how much truth there is in it but some people have said one panel would be impossible to match!
Really crap this even happened in the first place 😡

Took a ride for a coffee at the Motorist today (44 mile round trip) I haven't been for a while & its definitely gone a bit more upmarket.
The old Cafe is more of a shop & wasn't open, so it was the Restaurant only. £15 for a full brekkie, £6 for a bacon sarnie & £3.60 for a Coffee!
I think I will stick to Greggs!
They are building some huge sheds next door & the road is just a mud bath too.

Sadly the investment needs repaying , the timber structure alone was over £1.5 million (so I was told by staff) . The strategy appears to be to cater for “Supercar” owners and and if folk don’t like the prices don’t bother coming 🤔. Personally I’ll be giving North Yorkshire 500 more custom than The Motorist 🤔
