GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Popped to the dealer earlier to sort out some stuff with the courtesy car. Had to walk past my own car in the carpark so I was able to scope out the damage. It's actually minimal; the only broken paint looks to be some scuffs on the bumper. The wing is unmarked, but dented slightly, so will be replaced. The wheel is undamaged, but the tyre showed signs of contact, so alignment will be checked out.

I'm relieved that it's not as bad as I thought, and I guess it's happened in the best place that it could... but gutted that I doub't I'll have the car back for several weeks at least. If it wasn't for the wing needing replacement then it would be much quicker...but that's better than slapping filler on a car with only 2k miles on it.

Sigh. I'm sure there's a higher force at work here. I've enjoyed the car so far but still haven't really had a chance to drive it when it wasn't dark or wet or freezing cold. Now the clocks have gone forward, the weather's warming up and I was looking forward to getting out in the car, this happens.

I feel sick for you. Is it new bumper too?

That's so infuriating, especially that there was absolutely no way for you to avoid it. Could have happened at any time you dropped the car off for a service, so the parking sensors' installation was just a coincidence. Although it sounds like the other driver needed them more than you.

At least the damage doesn't indicate that they took it for a "test drive" and binned it on a roundabout.

I'm not convinced that bumper will look brand new if they just spray some paint over it to be honest. Are they looking at replacing it as well and then colour coding with the rest of the body?

Don't know the full details of what is going to be replaced yet, I think only the wing. To be honest, I am not too worried at the moment. The same dealer replaced the front bumper of my GT86 several years ago, including blending all the front wings and bonnet, and that looked great - and that was pearlescent white, which is notoriously hard to repair. So I'm hoping the flat electric blue will be okay. Also, they know the car has a ceramic coating, and know that needs to be removed and will be reapplied after.

EDIT: also, no, this was definitely the fault of a third party hitting it, not a joyride. They had all the details of the offending driver/vehicle.

I think unfortunately, you have obtained the unwanted badge for the first damaged GR86 😕 I got lucky when I was rear ended. Obviously the quality of driving around us is sh*te.

Yay, a podium! :(

Did you need any repair work at all? I thought that perhaps your crash bar had been dented (although it's not visible, granted)?

One thing that always makes me nervous about this dealer in particular is the small, tight car park. Never any space to park properly, so cars get double parked everywhere. Pretty livid now, taken such good care of it.

That's really frustrating - I can imagine how annoyed you must have been.

I took my GR Yaris for servicing yesterday and was worried about the same thing. Then the technician tells me when he's handing back the keys that another car got hit in the same fashion. It could have very easily been my car. I always despair when taking the car for a service for this very reason. Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction.

Yesterday I did my first track day in about 9 years and it was a lot of fun. With just pads, fluid, front camber and rear toe the car coped well but with so many race teams in attendance (using it as an informal test day) the most important components were the mirrors for most of the day!

I had a few passenger laps in a modified GT86 that belonged to a friend of a friend and it was impressive. Tein coilovers, 330mm 4 pot AP BBK, 8.5" wheels and 255 tyres (UHP but not track-biased) made it noticably quicker than my GR around a lap. The GR86 did feel right at home though, even with fairly limited grip and braking capacity.

Fitted swave rear camber arms. Become quite handy at swapping suspension components around I think I had them swapped within an hour 😅

Feck me it's low. I like it though. This is b6 front shocks, eibach pro all round. And swave arms fitted at their lowest of two mounting points.

It's dropped it about 20mm further at the rear (I measured accurately with a tape measure...) Going to try the upper of the two mounts soon.

You can see the rake in my car park photo from yesterday before fitting the camber arms

Car needed a wash. Living in a first floor flat, with no access to a hose or a power outlet has its difficulties.

So decided to take it to a place for a no contact snow foam spray down while I figure it out.

I used to hate living in a flat. Literally hated it.

I used to use Optimum No Rinse in the parking basement if it wasn't too dirty (not for winter...) or take it down to Morrisons Jet wash if it was.

4 big canisters of water in the boot, two buckets. Shampoo, wheel stuff, drying towels in a box.

I used to to park up outaide the bay, spray the wheels down with cleaner, agitate them, this stopped people bitching I was taking too long in the wash bay. Then drive into the bay, load the two buckets up with water and shampoo and get washing.

Back it out, dry it. Was done as fast as most normal people would spend washing their cars with the brush.

Careful of the pressure washer gun, don't let it drop on your car when it stops... I'm not the only person to do this.

AliExpress has just delivered some GR Sport logo puddle lights - how do you get the old ones out? Can't see anywhere obvious to fit my pry tool . . .

Not the best of videos

I went and had another look just after I sent that last post and managed it, but unfortunately the logo puddle lights don't fit - the connector is wrong. Time not wasted though, as I was able to swap the bulbs with LEDs

Trip to Caffeine and Machine with mostly Alfa's and some of weird car twitter. More of a social catchup as I'd not seen one friend for over 10 years. So long that he didn't recognise me. Last time I was several stone heavier, had more hair and didn't have a beard.

It's a decent place, if a long way from me (2hr 50) but a wide selection of cars, everyone seemed respectful and was good to talk cars with people. It was mad how popular the GR was. I got out the car and people were all over it and I spent the first 20 mins talking about it and talked to quite a few others as the day went on. Once the rest arrived they had a good look at it too and really liked it. All loved the colour and all the aero details and curves. Exhaust and gearknob were popular too.

Took my time up and back just to see what it would do MPG wise and was even better than last Sunday's North Wales run. Got back to original station I'd filled at day before having done 322 miles and put 41.62l in. Meaning 8.5l left. Did 35.5mpg which could've meant a range of 360 miles which is pretty good for an NA 2.4l

Intrigued by the Renault 5. Can't be a GT Turbo at that age. I'm guessing by the Camplu5 decal that it is a Campus with GT Turbo bits. Do you know anything about it?
