GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Took some celebratory 1000 mile photos after a quick drive out to the Cotswolds barn, cars dirty but epic above 4k!

Picked mine today from PPF installation (full front, side skirts, some other bits), paint correction and ceramic coating on the rest of the body.

Thing that I was afraid of happened… The battery was drained and the car didn’t start, the guy haven’t really moved it for the week 🤣
Fortunately he was a top lad and helped me jump start it from his Peugeot 206

Did the oil and filter today. Pretty straightforward though I did the obligatory spilling a bit of oil on the drive😬. The oil looked pretty clean and there were no metal bits or RTV in the drain pan. Total cost for millers EE performance 0W20 and an OEM filter + washer £69.90 plus 20 minutes of my time.

I’ll be the only owner in Weymouth, when it turns up. Where are you, we might have to have a game of cat and mouse on some of our lovely Dorset B roads 👍
North Dorset. Ha ha, that sounds dangerous. But I'm all for a meet up at some point. 👍

Any crud in the oil or oil filter? How was the quality of the oil on the way out?

The oil was really clean, no bits in the bottom of the drain pan when I emptied it out. I was going to cut the filter open but decided that would be a messy job and if there were bits of metal in there no way of telling if it was from the engine or cutting open the filter.

Good info 👍

Did you adhere to the 4k rpm for the first thousand miles?

If the oil.is still good with no crud I might not bother with a change after the run in period.

Others first changes appear to be clean as well - perhaps why they aren't done anymore by most brands?

Tolerances, quality control etc improvement over the years perhaps means generally you aren't generating a glitter bomb in your oil any more?

Plus with a 10 year warranty? If the engines dies, its going to be within this period. So can't see the point myself. In fact changing it yourself might lead to further complications if something does happen...

It depends what you call clean - mine looked cleanish when a drop was on your finger, but in a clear glass bottle it is jet black. I still think it is slightly overkill to change it but I couldn't stop myself.

Yeah, maybe I’ve been a bit more used to diesels in recent years which are always really black. As you say cleanish on your finger, but dark when in a big container.

I mashed 'oil analysis at 1000 miles' into google to find results of those who have done it, general feedback is none return any unusual results or any elevated levels of metals. I think its a practise passed on from the ages, the most important thing is to monitor the actual level, as that's caught me out on a new car before.

Car dropped off for PPF installation today with 595 miles on the clock. Will miss it over the next few days, but it's fitting that the weather worsened this week as well.
