GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Nice 60 mile drive over to the British Motor Museum today with the lad.. parked out of sight of the British cars!! Excellent place if you’ve not been.

And still after 4000 miles I’ve not seen another GR86 on the road whilst driving it!!

Went out for a spirited drive around the country roads and stopped off for a Chinese lunch.

Raised the rev warning from 5000rpm to 6000rpm (had been meaning to do it for months but could never find it again as I was setting off) and I’m surprised how it’s improved the driving experience.

I’m pretty sure I’ve been changing up a little early as I was getting too many beeps and sub-consciously backed off.

Finally managed to get out in the car today, then as it'd been sat, outside undriven, since the 28th November, it had to get a decent wash.
Snow Foam soak and two bucket wash (the rinse bucket was filthy). Came up ok, ready for the commute tomorrow.

Now the big decision is should I swap over to my new (to me) winter wheels (GT86 with Michelin CC tyres), which will give me a perfect opportunity to get these original alloys colour changed . . .🤔

What colour are you going for?
I'd recommend using a citrus pre wash as well as snow foam, gets rid of the majority of muck before a contact wash.

Great news you got out in the car today.

Drove it for the first time this year. Also first time in the dry with these wheels and tyres and been since November since I've even started it.

The wheels being lighter make quite a difference but I'd forgotten how keen the front end is to turn in. Compared to the Swift it's instant. This feels so much sharper. Love the Swift for what it is. Both driven in very different ways. Roll on some nicer days.

Yes. The temperatures are still mostly sub 10c up here, dipping into the minuses. The CCs will be far safer than any Summer rubber you may have on. Then of course, you'll have absolutely no excuse for not getting the OEM wheels refurbished (in Shadow Chrome maybe) all ready for the Show Season! :sneaky:

After much contemplation I decided to sound proof the back of the gr86. I have also changed the Michelins to Goodyear eagle 6. What a transformation. Significantly reduced the road/tyre noise!

Nice. Very much on my to do list.
Might you have a link to the materials used in, and over, the voids?

So first I did sound deadening dotted about the rear cabin, including the rear arch as far as I could and on the rear quarter. I had kilmat off Amazon but you can just use any sound deadening. So I did this stage months ago which made a slight difference but not much as it’s only to deaden vibration etc.

So today was going back and filling the void with insulation which I got from b and q -https://www.diy.com/departments/diall-insulation-roll-l-6m-w-0-37m-t-100mm/3663602481812_BQ.prd?storeId=&&&&&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADt-XHmN0soLiFkZ8C4ze852zp-Ew&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgraNnOWliwMVIpRQBh3JXzL6EAQYASABEgJTxfD_BwE

Then to fill over the voids I used a Dodo Barrier Pro MLV which is a combination of CCF accoustic foam to absorb the sound then a layer of MLV which blocks the sound. The link is here - https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-pro-barrier-mlv

To stick the barrier pro down I used this adhesive - https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-500ml-high-temp-adhesive

Hope this helps!

I also used the dodo barrier pro MLV under the V bars where it bolts onto the firewall - this stops the weird drum like sound that is discussed on the ‘reducing front end noise’ thread. I don’t have a photo of this but can provide one tomorrow.

Killer combo, love this. Are you stock suspension?

Not a comfy job is it? 😅

Would be great if you could share a photo. I thought about doing this but from the GR86.org forum those who tried deadening on the bulkhead said it didn't work.

Great that you're back out. keep up with your Physio 👍 👍

Long reach screwdriver arrived so adjusted my slightly too high headlights - super easy to do and there's even guides on the adjustment cogs to help the screwdriver. Only confusion was it's the cogs that need to go clockwise to raise, anti-clockwise to lower, not the screwdriver :p
