Had the car in pieces fitting sound deadening today. Did the rear wheel wells, under the rear seats, inside the doors, and the boot lid. Car sounds a lot quieter and the doors make a more satisfying thunk when you shut them.
Around 5kg total. About 0.75kg in each door, the bulk (~1.5kg per side) in the wheel arches, and then minimal amounts under the seats and in the boot lid.How much weight do you think you added?
You know you're supposed to roller the matting to make the diamonds go away to ensure is stuck down properly?Had the car in pieces fitting sound deadening today. You need to be a contortionist to manoeuvre everything inside the car though.
I've also fitted my dashcam and I've put in some LEDs for the reversing lights, so it's been a productive day!View attachment 20366

This was mid process, pre-rolling.You know you're supposed to roller the matting to make the diamonds go away to ensure is stuck down properly?
Or did you do that in the 3/4 after the photo?
It is bloody hard work in the back though if you're not a midget!
The diamonds are there as a visual aid, the butyl itself flat. Why don't think just give you flat material? I can't see the benefit of something that requires flattening.
Snap, I have a bag full of stuff! Of course, a Toyota bagGot to love this forum - going to need a day to fit the “essential enhancements” accumulated on the recommendation of the GR-ZOO community.
Naturally, this now includes a K&N AIR FILTER. FGS!!
I suppose I should be thanking you all…
Seriously, thank you!
Braver than me!Had the car in pieces fitting sound deadening today. Did the rear wheel wells, under the rear seats, inside the doors, and the boot lid. I am used to driving older cars, so it's certainly quieter than a 71 Volvo 1800es or a 86 911 Supersport. It will do fine for usIs there a consensus that the car is particularly loud/boomy? I’m 1500 miles into a road trip at the moment, with a fair amount of miles sat on autoroutes at 85mph and thought the cabin noise was actually pretty decent, and haven’t even felt the need to pump the music up to hide anything (volume sits between 8-10).
It was something I was slightly concerned about, but found the tyre roar on my FK8 to be far more annoying than the GR86.
Fabulous.Added a coating of AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection. The paint looks great.
Absolutely this. Quieter than my previous MX5, 124 Spider, GT86, MR2, Z4M, 993...I am used to driving older cars, so it's certainly quieter than a 71 Volvo 1800es or a 86 911 Supersport. It will do fine for us![]()
Be interesting to know how much quieter a small amount of work could make though.Absolutely this. Quieter than my previous MX5, 124 Spider, GT86, MR2, Z4M, 993...
Agreed, compared to the Abarth 124 Spider this is like a Bentley!Absolutely this. Quieter than my previous MX5, 124 Spider, GT86, MR2, Z4M, 993...
Did you remove the front seats to make it easier?Had the car in pieces fitting sound deadening today. Did the rear wheel wells, under the rear seats, inside the doors, and the boot lid. I didn't. The faff with removing and refitting them didn't seem worth it.Did you remove the front seats to make it easier?
It's actually just a few minutes to remove the front seats. I change seats for track days.I didn't. The faff with removing and refitting them didn't seem worth it.
