GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Out of winter hibernation. Nice drive to and from work going the long way.
Hopefully the fuel doesn’t dry up at the petrol stations to be able to continue.

Only quoting this as the picture is similar to mine as I also have a Cusco bar but the carbon wrapped one. Noticed it doesn't go into the cutout on the bonnet carpet and touches it just above which I found odd. Bonnet fits fine but do notice swell on hot days where it very slightly moves so the gaps are ever so slightly bigger. It's a light bonnet too. I'm sure I've seen it move on bumpier roads
 
Yep. I noted some slight ‘buff’ marks on the strut where it touches the bonnet liner, so I’m guessing that the small movements of the GR86’s rather light bonnet during driving is causing those. The liner itself has shallow dents at the same points, but nothing too concerning for me. I’ve not noticed any swelling per-se, but it flaps some in high winds/making good forward progress; just glad the catch is robust as I feel it’d lift quicker than an old Pompey Slapper’s skirt at the offer of a free drink and some chips (no offence to chips of course) 😬…
 
Switched from KW Clubsport to Ohlins R&T and installed GR Airbox :cool:
Also I just got an alignment: -3.2 F Camber -2.6 R Camber 0.2 toe in on the rear. All done with Pedders top hats, upper 14mm Oem bolts and lower Eibach/SPC 14mm bolt so no pillowball top hats for now.
 
What did I do to mine today? Nothing, because I sold it via p/ex yesterday.

I’ve been retired for 6 years and have my free bus pass, but I’ll be buggered if I’m gonna get a sensible car just yet! When the 86 goes it’s gonna have to be a V8, so maybe be a toss-up between a 5.0 V8 NA Mustang or a 5.0 V8 Supercharged Jaguar F-type. Then maybe a Lexus for final sensible motoring … or an M2. 🫣

Today’s job: Fettled with the AliExpress engine cover, which is now ‘show-ready’ for the 2026 season:

My PCP agreement ends in July. Phoned Toyota financial today to assess options.

Either refinance the balloon and go on HP or I take out a bank loan and pay off the balloon in one go.

Decisions decisions!
 
I'm not officially retired yet (although I've not done any paid work since end of December), but I saw an endless blue sky today and decided to tackle a couple of Lake District passes that I hadn't done for a while

Just back now and something like 240 miles later - it was bloody lovely!

The weather today certainly brought a few cars out!
I've been waiting ages for a dry day and double digit temperature, so had a run through the North Pennines.
Middleton-in-Teesdale, Alston, Penrith. Turned round and back the same way.:)
Durham side the road was quiet, but in Cumbria there were 6 MX5's, a soft top Mercedes C an Alfa.
At the top of Hartside Pass there was a nice GTM kit car in the lay-by.

On the run back, as if a reminder or warning was needed, I met 2 groups of sports cars, including numerous McLarens and Alpines.
First group didn't wave. The second group was pulled up and flagging down traffic.
There was an Audi R8, parked on the fell side, a good 10 metres off the road, on the other side of the ditch, at an elevation of about 1.5 metres higher than the road surface. It looked to be all in one piece, but things can go spectacularly wrong, real quickly.
I changed up a gear for a more relaxed drive, turned up the radio and enjoyed the scenery.

Have fun when you're out there and get home safely guys.:)(y)

I saw a photo of that and wondered how it had managed to get where it ended up!
 
We see it a lot on the biker side too. Second the sun comes out and loads go out for a wobble without getting back into it sensibly. Loads go off or worse. Today was my first ride on the bike since last year but was only the usual 20min commute which I found useful to get back into it. Roads you know, etc. Same with some cars which may not have been out since September/October last year. Mates get excited and the pressure to go for a blast somewhere and someone always over eggs it.

I forgot how bad the brakes were.
Hopefully they'll free up after a decent drive.
Got back in the Hilux after and nearly headbutted the windscreen.

Side note I've been busy with other projects. Engine rebuilt in progress (well its out..) on the 4th gen Camaro so I can daily that over the summer while I pull the truck apart fora forged 3UZ build and 6 speed box to accept a supercharger.

If it's not wet I'll do a 5 hour round trip in in on Monday.

Paid my car off and traded it in. Great car, wasn’t expecting to part with it and definitely going to miss it and this group. I know a lot of folks have said it but this really is the best collection of like minded petrol heads I have found online. Best wishes to you all.

Last time I was in the dealer I was looking at the Land Cruiser but the price was a bit out of my budget! In my head that and a GR86 make a good 2 car garage
