GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Still waiting for an update about the emissions testing kit from the main dealer service dept, so I can inconvenience myself further by driving there and back to get the MOT test done after yesterday's FUBAR.

Had a thought about my service plan. When I set it up I was expecting 3-5k miles P/A, but now with the new job and projected 24-26k miles P/A I'd need more than the annual servicing. Anyone else had this or similar? I assume I'd have to top up payments somehow.

To be honest I'll probably cancel it and find a good independent instead.

I was at Abbey Motorsport today for some work (I'll write that up in a different thread). A different experience... offered a home cooked bacon bap (politely declined to protect waistline) and a lot of interesting metal to look around from model-a hot rod / several high spec turbo / supercharged GT86s to a mark ii jag all in for work. All work tackled by competent people able to discuss and provide good advice to you, as per their usual standards.

While back at home the Subaru franchise garage informs me the third warranty manager I have dealt is no longer with the company and the fourth asks me to re explain again my gearbox issues .....Argh! Its the same everywhere.
I was offered a sausage sandwich when I was there for my service, and I had the same concerns about my waistline, but they twisted by arm by saying "Are you sure?" and so I just had to capitulate.

Thursdays was Bacon apparently ....what day is sausage? Just for those looking to plan their future Abbey booking!

One of the things that was completed at Abbey was a dyno run on my mechanically stock car at about 15k miles. This was done as a health check as my car was feeling very constrained and has a lot of whine (probably gearbox). If anyone is interested here are the results. Very consistent with @MartinT BRZ. Mark at Abbey said the marginal difference 207HP at hubs vs 213HP pre tune on Martins was explainable by European GPF and maybe benefit of Outbound air intake.

What is super interesting is that these runs have removed the bogged down feeling my car previously had. I clearly had not been driving hard enough and maybe my long road trips had put my car in a funny state. Mark at Abbey explained that on the last runs you could see the air fuel ration had shifted. I also remember a post on here about someone regularly resetting their throttle mapping somehow. I need to find that post..... anyhow very happy things now feel much freer. Early new years resolution.... must drive harder!

If I recall, the throttle reset is something like fully depressing the accelerator pedal five times.

I think it was a Tuesday. Interesting about the European GPF. Do you know, does your air intake have the extra filter, like the US cars? Scott was convinced that they should be standard on UK cars...I disagreed and said I was sure mine didn't, but had to wait until I was home to check as I have the Infinity intake now. I thought it was a US only thing.

Throttle reset procedure is as follows:
1. Ignition on (don't star at engine)
2. Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal a few times (at least 5). Make sure you move it through the whole range of motion.
3. Start the engine and let the engine run until it settles to it's normal idle (so best to do it when the engine is warm).

I'm currently at the dealers "enjoying" a while you wait service experience and MOT.

Asked to "bear with them" this morning, as the MOT tester is off work today, having been "punched in the face last night in Leicester".

Well, who hasn't been?

Attempting to entertain myself by mooching around the sales stock.

Spotted this:

Had a sit in the other new stuff and can't remember anything about any of them.

Wandered over to Alfa Romeo across the road. Tonale is pleasant enough inside, but brand new ones have rusty wheel hubs. Alfa Junior is quite nasty inside and isn't very Alfa - feels very generic and at £30k plus, overpriced. Was ignored by grumpy looking staff when I wanted to ask about the cars. Oh well.

Might wander over to VW but just looking at the stock outside from the window here I'm nodding off.

I really can't bring myself to walk over to Vauxhall.

Eleventh cappuccino and post this waffle on here then, by the look of it.

Merry f**king Christmas.
Bugger - sorry to hear your woes. Never nice when things go like that.

Was that Nuneaton? I was wondering about going there but went to Tamworth for Service / MOT instead and that was fine if you need that for future reference.

I was just parroting Scott and Mark. My car will be the same spec as a UK GR86, and in fact was more similar to a red UK car they had turbo'd (prior to that work). So I have the GPF after the headers but not the American cars carbon filter. I think a Japanese spec car has neither? The outbound intake has a blank to remove the resonance box usually on the left of the intake and the Abbey guys seem impressed with that setup.

Thanks both for that reset procedure.

Yes it was. Coventry is my usual one, but I had a problem booking there. I'd booked online, had a confirmation through, and then was emailed (not telephoned) a couple of days later telling me they couldn't do it.

Brilliant five star service from Lister's!

So after yesterday's MOT abandonment, I left the dealers with the service done but without the MOT.

I was promised a telephone call first thing this morning so that I could go back and have the MOT finished off today.

So, as a fun game, want to guess what time they called me?

No - you are incorrect.

They still haven't called.

And of course I have tried ringing them, and no one has answered.

How on earth do Toyota come at or near the top of brand customer satisfaction surveys?

What on earth do some of these low-ranking Stellantis lot do? Spit in your tea and defecate in your glovebox?

Had my car's 3rd service yesterday and it's first MOT.

I asked them to add the missing stamp for the 2nd service and for some reason they overwrote the 1st service stamp with the details of the 2nd.

I spotted that and asked them to fix it and then they made it worse by crossing out the 3rd service, replacing it with the 2nd service and then creating a new entry for the 3rd service.

I told them it looked awful. They said they would speak to their manager about getting a new service book which costs £25.

Am I being too fussy?

You couldn’t write it, the way these dealers are mind.

No. A legitimate service record affects the value of the car. Why should their inability to hold a pen straight impact that?

Christ.

...and of course, because the car has been off site (from the dealer's), they are now telling me it needs a full MOT redoing despite having everything bar the emissions done two days ago.

This does make sense from a compliance perspective, but they have had numerous opportunities to tell me this.

So the waiting continues.

Don't do it. The service book that they'll provide is a generic Toyota 'Replacement Service & Warranty' book. It is NOT the same as the Service/Warranty Manual that comes with a new GR86. My GR86 was missing one from new (the dealership poorly advised the first owner that it didn't come with one and everything was saved online - which is absolute boll0cks), so I paid the £25 to my Toyota dealer in Dunfermline expecting something decent and original to the GR86 ... I ended up with a booklet that you can actually buy from Ebay or Amazon for around a Tenner. It doesn't even mention the GR86 (just the GT86) and is basically just a place to put the stamps. For info, the number on the back of this crappola booklet is PZ49X-S02GB-EN. If you have the original you'll see it has a completely different publication number.

That’s an absolute mess. It doesn’t seem unreasonable at all to expect them to supply you a new one to correct this.

^ Exactly my thoughts when I was given the same folder just after they damaged my wheel.

On the bright side replacing the MAF sensor does seem to have solved my P0420 fault code. Ended up just getting the service and MOT done while they (Toyota Newbridge) had it in and I was putting miles on the rental car Toyota UK supplied me. Just received the email confirmation of extended warranty too.
