GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Tore up the original undertray, so replaced it with the GRMN version today.

Has anyone installed the TRD 51410-52120 engine cover? (The TRD engine cover for the GR Yaris is designed to effectively cool the transmission. The air duct located on the bottom also lowers the oil temperature, which contributes to stable performance when driving on the track.)

I had this before switching to the GRMN undertray. My car is only lowered 15mm but this hung lower around the red vent and I found it caught on tall speed bumps so ended up a bit broken. I did have it for sale somewhere on here too.

Yes. There's at least one YouTube video I know of (Japanese) where they test the transfer temp (installed thermocouple) with the stock tray, this one, and the GRMN one. They just drive the car at around 80km/h sustained until the temperature plateaus. The TRD tray shows a significant drop in transfer oil temperature, and the GRMN tray about 10°C cooler than the TRD one.

Thanks, so the GRMN cover is better and, from what I've read, more resistant to road conditions (rain, mud, frost, etc.). What are the differences between the standard cover and the GRMN? Do you have any comparisons?

Banked the insurance cheque.

The car was written off last weekend after another driver lost control and collected me as they span out.

😔

Following on from this back in July last year...

The crash happened mid July.

Radio silence from the other party until November.

My insurance company call to say "This is unusual but the other parties insurance has not contacted us and we've just been served notice by a solicitor that the other party intends to take you to court, stating you were on the wrong side of the road and caused the accident. We've asked our legal representatives to reach out."

They reach out, I reiterate the story and leave it with them. They send me the notice of proceedings from the other party. It carries the name of the driver's father.

Turns out Daddy owned and insured the car, young daughter was a named driver. I suspect they were fronting.

I spend some time figuring out how to get the crash report details and provide those details to the solicitor so they can get a copy. I was sure that the young lady fessed up to the police at the scene that it was her fault.

December rolls around, insurance renewal time. My insurance goes down £200 even with the open £25k claim.

Radio silence till February. Solicitor calls "Court case is booked for May, other party has offered to go 50/50"

"What does the crash report say" I reply. "They're offering 50/50 because they know they were at fault and are trying to leverage me."

"uh buh umm we've been busy, snowed under buh umm"

FFS 🙄

I tell them to go get a copy of the report and don't call me back until they have it. I follow this up with an e-mail to the paralegal copying their supervisor. The next day, they've got a copy of the report from the other party and guess what?

She fessed up to the police at the scene, clear as day admitting to losing control and causing the accident.

My solicitor goes back to them advising they drop the case. 2 days later they do. Now just waiting to get my excess back.

Anyway, a microcosm of why insurance costs generally continue to rise...

Car back from having the livery put on, then fitted some 2nd hand wheels I picked up cheap. Only bought them to tide me over until my ordered wheels arrive, but they've really grown on me. So maybe rather than sell on, I'll keep them for winter and stick some winter tyres on them?

I am surprised the NACA duct works more efficiently the TRD

Material for starters. The GRMN is a hard plastic and the TRD/GR Parts is the same as stock. GRMN has no transmission cooling. GRMN must be removed to change the oil and filter.

My opinion...for fast road, TRD is fine. Here in Japan, a lot if GRY are used in competition rally, and they all use aluminum bash guards, so... :) Gymkhana peeps use either, and track cars should have a transfer oil cooler if you want it to live. Fast road, and either is probably helpful, but not required. IMO.
