GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Would love to know more about why the GRMN has this specific issue/what these are. Eg an Ogier special edition gen 2 got imported recently and is on the road, so curious as to what it is about the GRMN:

Ogier, was sold here.

There’s been a few GRMN imported over the last few years but none have been road registered. C-tec, JM autos and automotive passion have all imported plus the AJM one that started this off.

Found the reason why they have to wait 10 years.

today i recived the export certificate and the GRMN cant be registered in the uk until its 10 years old just as i suspected there was no specification number or classification number on the export certficate just an update for the guys who were asking

Thanks. Assume they’re in storage for a while then with a hope that they remain sought after!

Both seem to be the poor mans GR RS (no 4WD no turbo but a dead 1.5 with a 10gear AT...). However, the second has a GR Kit in white which i like. :)

Dont we all love trade wars :)

I must be missing some context here, how is the inability to register a GRMN related to trade wars?
Thought this was similar case to the US import law (25 year rule) which was clearly targeted trade strategy, but reading more about this UK case I see now its related to the technical aspect of registering . Still its imo pretty weird that you need to wait 10 years to register it, then suddenly its not an issue at all.

In the US at least it's about safety and emissions regs

The Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act of 1988 is a piece of U.S. legislation that requires imported vehicles to comply with the same safety standards as domestically manufactured vehicles, making it difficult and often impossible to import newer vehicles unless they meet specific exemptions, such as the 25-year rule for classic cars.

Here's a breakdown of its key aspects:

  • Purpose:
To ensure that vehicles imported into the United States meet all the safety standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that apply to vehicles sold in the U.S.
  • Mechanism:
It created a system of bonds and penalties to prevent the unsafe or non-compliant vehicles from entering the U.S. market.
  • The 25-Year Rule:
While the Act makes it difficult to import most modern vehicles, vehicles that are at least 25 years old (based on their original year of manufacture) can be exempted from these safety and emissions requirements.
  • Impact:
This Act primarily targets newer or modified vehicles, as they are less likely to meet U.S. safety regulations. It effectively makes it challenging to import many popular foreign models that weren't originally built for the U.S. market, leading to the popularization of the 25-year rule for enthusiasts.
In simple terms, if a vehicle isn't designed to meet American safety standards, it generally cannot be legally imported into the U.S. unless it is old enough to be exempt under the 25-year rule.

There are a few ways to legally bring gray market cars into the US that don't fall under the 25 year rule. The 25 year rule is basically a free pass that lets you import almost anything of that age or older from anywhere in the world with almost no restrictions.

If a car is considered rare or historically significant, you can try to bring it in under the Show or Display exemption. That is why R34 GTRs were already in the US years before they hit the 25 year mark. But proving a car qualifies is not easy. You have to show that the model is culturally or technologically important and get it approved by NHTSA, which many cars have been.

Another option is the race car exemption. If the car is built only for competition and is stripped of street equipment, it can sometimes qualify as a race car import. The catch is it can never be legally registered for road use.

There is also the Registered Importer path, where an approved importer modifies the car to meet US safety and emissions standards. But that route costs serious money, and it only makes sense for high value cars where someone has already gone through the process to get the model approved.

Not today but recently I "went" bare roof.

I have a day off today, after detailer fixed the ppf corner I went for a local mountain pass road which is also used as a hillclimb stage. It was slightly damp after morning rain so I took more calmer approach than usual, but obviously Yaris combined with PS4s easily dealt with these conditions.

It is toyota rental.

I've seen Omoren. They have quite a collection to choose from and the price for a real full fat GR Yaris was reasonable.
Unfortunately, their nearest shop is 1,5h away from where we are staying.

I tried to change/cancel my reservation at the Toyota Rental website but the servers for this service are under maintenance since Friday. Very frustrating.
To conclude my japan rental car reservation rollercoaster, I managed cancel the phony GR Yaris and found an other station with a GR86 available. The GR86 was even 10€ cheaper.
Thanks again Ecsrobin, for saving us from an unpleasant surprise!

Maybe I'll ask my dealer for a test drive with an actual GR Yaris, when my car is in for the next service.

I wanted to connect a reversing camera.
And I found these devices.
I haven't figured out how to connect the camera yet, but I'll figure it out.
Maybe someone knows how to connect it; I'd be grateful for your help.
