GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Here is some real-life experience of these.

Excellent tyre in all conditions I've encountered throughout the year in South England. I found it better, more sporty and more consistently ageing than the PS4S in the sense of maintaining its initial characteristics for longer.

Not impressed by its initial tread depth which was circa 6mm. @Mark Morris feel free to confirm if current batches are the same.

Currently looking for tyres again and, inspired by @Yaris San , perhaps leaning towards Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports on the basis of better longevity.
Just nosed and yes, 6/7 mm is about it. Think the Michelins were more like 8 mm

Booked in for new front tyres & alignment tomorrow as mine are badly worn on the inner edges.

Checked my invoice from the service on Monday and disappointed to see that, as it's on the service plan, they don't list the consumables. It's a shame as I was looking forward to joining in with the oil chat.

I also have a service plan, you should receive a full invoice including labour and parts used. We are both paying for this service, it's not free . Saying that it would depend on the service carried out, was it 6 month inspection, minor service or main service.

went for groceries and some karting track bookings and car gets attention. It has aged quite well in its form, and feel it is getting more attention now compared to when it was new.
Maybe model's success in rallying helps. After some vague thoughts feel its a keeper, and should it get mild lamspeed/cam treatment? Need to swell with the thought, maybe few years with this setup and then if going more power do the clutch (and fw) in the same run.

That's great to hear. Looking forward to potentially try them out myself.
Im not really concerned about longevity since I don't drive huge distances. Tires are more likely to age out in my case.

Before the Continental came out I was looking at the Brigestone Potenza Sport. According to reviews that's another tire that has surpassed the Michelin in some ways. Anyone has experience with those?

I've only got experience with the SC7. They are great.
The Potenza Sport is supposedly not very heat resistant which is a big no for a sporty tyre in my opinion.

In Germany i can buy a Continental SC7 for 94€ per tyre. A Michelin PS4S would cost around 150€ per tyre. So i think the lower tread depth is fair.

Yeah I heard that too from the Pontenza. Kudos to Jonathan from Tyre Reviews for actually saying that in his reviews. That's the kind of detail that isn't mentioned in most other reviews of any kind. That being said he does like it for it's fun and sporty feeling. Bridgestone seem to have absolutely nailed that. The durability concerns seem to be limited to actual track driving mostly. I don't think it's as much of an concern when you are just having fun on the street.

Great point actually. Michelin tends to be among the most expensive brands but their pricing on the 4S is absolutely outrageous.
I checked a few online shops and the 4S is their most expensive tire. Even more expensive than their own Cup 2 semi slick. Excuse me???
Considering how both Bridgestone and Continental are available for less than 100, I can only label this as a complete rip-off.

I think cup2 is priced good for GR, given how good it behaves on track and road. not perfect at least on track but ok for the price.
so using cheapos for every day use and then cup2 for fun runs. maybe those contis are good option for every day tire if the price is that good.

So, best practice is to change tyres and then have the alignment done.

However, in reality these don't always coincide.

If someone is in a situation like the one you describe, ie uneven wear with the inner side and edge worn more than the outer side, and needs to have alignment done with these tyres before changing to new ones, are there any tips regarding the alignment settings?

I'm not asking about tips to avoid uneven wear. I'm just checking in case there is anything to take into account for geo settings, given that the alignment will be done with the car sitting on unevenly worn tyres, but needs to work with the news ones that will be fitted soon after.

Dropped mine off for its 3 year service and picked up a new C-HR Hybrid as a loaner. Smooth drive and roomy but the constant chiming and beeps from all the safety systems made it a very stressful drive home. Most annoying is the speed alert that chimes away even if under by 3mph. Hopefully not too long until I’m reunited with mine and they don’t unplug the radiator fan this time!

Nice. I would appreciate if you would give us an update after you have driven them a bit.

The tire has destroyed the competition in basically every single comparison test so I planned on retiring my original PS4S after this summer and getting these instead. It's always to good to hear a few more real-life experiences though.
Took the car for a drive this afternoon
The tyres impress, good turn in, good grip etc
Just like how I remember the PS4s being
Nice to get that feeling back after running a set of ps4
No sound of stones pinging of the arches tho like the PS4s , they seemed like chewing gum, like the supercorsa’s on my Ducati 😂

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Recaro Profi SPG XL and got it fitted in the nick of time just before my trip to the Nurburgring with huge thanks to Ed of Divine Detail.

Orginally I had bought a Cobra Seat Base however the positioning meant that with the sliders the seat didn't go back far enough. Not a problem if you are 6ft or less however as I am 6ft 3 it was a big problem.

In the end i reached out to Ben @StringTheoryGarage who happened to have the JCR Seat Base in stock and got it to me the very next day just in time for my trip to the Ring. (Ben, if you read this, thank you once again for your help and expediting said item to me so quickly!!! First class servcie)

I can conifrm the JCR Seat Base fits beautifully and comes with Recaro runners so was very easy to fit and looks great plus has a good range of movement.

I couldn't be happier with the seat. It totally transforms the feel of the car and made a MASSIVE difference out on track. No more having to brace myself and hold on tight to the steering wheel when going around corners.

My trip to the Nurburgring went very well, we lucked out with the weather last Monday for the Circuit Days Trackday and I had an absolute blast driving on it once again togehter with @SayonaraLicense

We also saw a number of forum cars in the garage of the Dorrint hotel as it was their last night of their epic European tour.

Here are a few pictures.

Now thinking about wider wheels & stickier rubber. Will it never stop! 🤣

Very happy with my Recaro and GRMN Steering wheel and gear knob.

Had a spare sticker from @Sticky lying around which came to good use.

A few from the Circuit Days track day which was very well organised, driving was to a very high standard with no red flags and not too many cars out on circuit which was perfect.

Hah yes! We saw you all parked up in the Dorint. Glad you enjoyed it, and that track day looks like a good bet.

As for the seat, I would definitely appreciate more support because the standard seats are a bit…loose, but I’m one of those weirdos who not only doesn’t mind the high seating position, but actually prefers it because it makes the car easier to place on the road due to the high scuttle.

It does look the business though 😎

Doing some errands yesterday for a community project I am running. Had a mate with me who had done a few passenger laps in a couple of sprints I did last year and the year before. When we were done he said he is still shocked at the grip and how it goes around corners. I told him corners are things other people have to slow down for. He chuckled.

Hah. I actually had multiple conversations with a colleague from work about that topic. Keep in mind he drives an old Renault with around 70 hp. But he has told me countless stories about how he had people in big and powerful cars sitting on his bumper the entire time but then he showed them how to take a corner on the edge of grip and they suddenly became very small in his mirror. One time somebody even called the police on him after he did that but he did nothing illegal of course so they just let him continue. It's absolute insanity how someones ego can be that hurt after they get smoked by a 70 hp Renault with a driver who actually knows what he is doing.

While I personally haven't lived through the kind of experiences he did, I do share his observation. Some people really think that money can buy skill but keeping your steering wheel straight and putting your foot down in your 500 hp car is not a skill. Anybody can do that. Knowing what to do when the car is no longer traveling straight is what really takes a healthy amount of skill, experience and confidence.
