GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

The 0888-86294 oil is fine but the Fuchs has extra additives to prevent low speed pre ignition, so RRG are going the extra mile when servicing the GRY
The 08880 86294 is only GF5, its API is only SN, not even SN PLUS, let alone the preferred SP which helps with pre ignition and certainly not GF6. These engines are prone to knock events and that is the reason for oil specs and higher octane fuel. I’m sorry I’m going to have to politely disagree with “fine”. Only trying to help anyone else reading this 👍

Don't be sorry, I'm just passing on what I'm being by certain Toyota dealerships. I'm totally confused by this whole oil issue. I took out a extended service plan in the hope that Toyota dealerships would know how to maintain my car correctly, I'm a driver not a car technician.

Its fine I'm only trying to help you, I'm as frustrated as you are to see this is still happening.
So the correct oil is 0W20 API SP GF6A as per the filler cap.

If you check the part number that is on your invoice it comes back as 0W20 API SN GF5.

From memory you can use a GF5 spec oil in the correct weight but it should be minimum API SN PLUS, not just SN.
So the SN PLUS and the newer SP have greater pre detonation qualities, so a GF5 SN PLUS is ok, but there is better options.

So back in the day RRG Macc understood the oil spec from day one and always used an oil rated API SP and GF6A, and that is why today they are still servicing with FUCHS because back in 2020 Toyota uk couldn't even supply the right oil.

The question is, what do you do next? will that oil be fine? probably
Is there better available as per your filler cap? yes
IMO do I think its the wrong oil? yes
Have you paid a premium to have your car serviced to the highest standard? yes

It could be worse I have seen 0W16 put in over the years.
Dealerships are frustrating and difficult at times and sometimes they do get it wrong or genuinely do not know, I truly am trying to just help you here, and any new owners that are in the same position.

All this info is good to know, as i am the "dealership" myself i can source whatever i need for myself, we mostly work with Valvoline oils since many years and havent had any issues, and i see that Valvoline has the correct spec oil and it should be available.

VALVOLINE SYNPOWER MST FE C6 0W-20 or VALVOLINE SYNPOWER DX1 0W-20

Has the ILSAC GF-6A spec and in description mentions small engines with GPF's.

Just got my car back from a service at Toyota, they said the front brake rotors will need replacement next year (10k km left).
A bit surprised as the car only has 25000 km. If anyone could let me know if it's usual. Expected cost 2k CHF, ouch!

I've been told the same at 27000 KM. I'll measure the disks myself to see where I'm at exactly. The minimum width on the front discs is 25mm. I'll have to admit that this car encourages the driver to drive at a quick pace, late braking included. I wouldn't be too surprised if my front discs are quite used by now.

I changed mine at about 34000 km and the discs still had a bit of life in them.

You can go aftermarket much cheaper. I got EBC floating discs and RP1s for about €900. The rotors on them are replaceable too so even cheaper next time.

Today while collecting the missus from work a really pretty young lady stopped, turned and said "nice car".

All of a sudden it was all worth while.
I have not had that experience yet. My car seems to only attract the middle-aged gentleman 😀 Had a fella in a nice red Ferrari have a glance at the Yaris yesterday.

This is the oil our engines require. Unless it’s an equivalent spec or better, it’s not good enough.
08880-84106 or nothing 😊

It's a shame certain dealerships don't know this
They really should only be using what the newish Superservice menus tell them to use, or a self provided alternative up to spec, if they are supplying a different Toyota oil, either something really messed up is going on at the particular dealership, or the oil is in short supply.

See for reference:

I’m sure most do. Problem is, they’ll have barrels of 0W-20 GF5 oil in the workshop. Why go to the expense of ordering some fancy-pants GF-6A in when the stuff in the barrels out back ‘will do’? Boils down to profit /lack of care or knowledge.

Apologies for sounding so cynical but it’s the most likely answer.

We’ve got to remember that this particular engine is unique to the GRY & GRC.

I'll be honest with you. Mine has only gotten services with the good stuff because I brought it to them.
Otherwise they would have used whatever 0w20 they already have in their workshop.

This is most likely due to "old part number" pads, seen many worn out discs with that mileage, including mine. Some managed to get new discs through warranty, I know a car which hadnt been driven for a long time and pads were sealed with discs. There was visible damage and warranty was accepted. Mine was not.

Nice. I would appreciate if you would give us an update after you have driven them a bit.

The tire has destroyed the competition in basically every single comparison test so I planned on retiring my original PS4S after this summer and getting these instead. It's always to good to hear a few more real-life experiences though.

I shall do. Won’t be till next week most likely tho. I went from the PS4s to ps4 due to no availability
Although they were okay, it had lost the initial sharpness of the steering. Only done two miles on these and that feel is back

Here is some real-life experience of these.

Excellent tyre in all conditions I've encountered throughout the year in South England. I found it better, more sporty and more consistently ageing than the PS4S in the sense of maintaining its initial characteristics for longer.

Not impressed by its initial tread depth which was circa 6mm. @Mark Morris feel free to confirm if current batches are the same.

Currently looking for tyres again and, inspired by @Yaris San , perhaps leaning towards Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports on the basis of better longevity.
