GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Today marks one year of GR Yaris ownership.
So I got her a present.😁

Went to Japan and got a HKS Super Turbo, brought it in the "bag".
Just installed it, feels stronger in the midrange, was not actually expecting any difference!
Still really quiet, wish it was a little bit louder. Maybe I should have taken the L spec 2.
Should increase the sound a little bit after some track time

That looks to nice to fit under the car , man I swore blind I wouldn't mod the car ? every time I come on the forum you all make it harder to do,
mod creep is a real thing 😆 .
Regards Russ.....

Heat cycles and time of use can indeed make an exhaust louder, and generally exhausts get louder simply if they are properly hot. Which kind of coincides with when you want them to be loud - on a fun run. But can also be slightly frustrating on a quick dash here and there for daily fun...

That's awesome, probably a bit better for it to be slightly too quiet than slightly too loud? And as you say it will probably "grow" a little.

I'm thinking of doing the same as you next year with a Fujitsubo A-RM. I'm curious how you did it - did you buy directly from HKS in Japan or buy online and pick up there?

They say the fujitsubo is 98% the same as stock, I don't think it is worth it. There is a really nice video in YouTube where they test some exhausts. Tegiwa channel I think.

It is really hard to buy stuff online in Japan, they request Japanese ID or phone number for the login in almost all websites. So I went to the store and asked them to deliver to my hotel.
Autobacs is one of the biggest ones, it was 211k yen online, 260 at the store. I don't know if you can get the same online price at the store, didn't asked. And I bought it at Crystal auto for 198 (+8k of shipping) they don't speak English, but were really helpful with Google translate.
Tax free in Japan is directly at the store, autobacs have it, but crystal still don't have it, so unfortunately I did not get the 10% for that.
Bought it on Sunday, asked them to be delivered to the hotel on Thursday. Everything worked well.
Just had to pay ~400 eur of over-sized luggage that I was not expecting.

With the straight-through type mufflers the internal packing does deteriorate over time and use. I think the packing is either stainless steel wool or fiberglass.

HKS exhaust installed, the process was straightforward as expected. I was looking for something that sounds sporty without screaming at the neighbours and it's exactly that, the sound only comes alive once it's up to temperature, it's a really nice growling sound, not metallic at all, and there's no droning once the speed is stable. There's a few pops here and there when shifting/revmatching at high RPM and on the rev limiter.

The best part imo is just the overall ambient sound it creates, even at low RPM, it just makes the car more entertaining to drive even in a normal commute, now it actually sounds like a sports car even if I'm not driving spiritedly.

Visually I think the mk2 rear diffuser works really well with an aftermarket exhaust, it makes it worth it to go the extra mile and pick something with a premium look.

I put some short clips together, I'm linking to a recent reddit post about it so I don't have to rehost it somewhere else.

I'm talking about the A-RM, not the A-R! Full titanium, louder than the A-R, and a cool/immature design which regardless will remain mostly hidden (eagerly waiting for someone to post a pic of it on a Mk2!!!)

Hm interesting that Autobacs charges so much more! 198 is a really good price, and it must have been a cool experience receiving a freaking HKS exhaust at your hotel. And thanks for the tip on over-sized luggage, I'll definitely have to scope that issue out a bit more.

Picked up a set of black round Pirelli’s. Will try and get these new PZ5’s fitted this week if I get time. My PS4S suffering from inner edge wear on fronts so swapping out for a fresh new set of rubber. Only 100euro a tyre for these which is better than current PS4S prices here in Estonia. Had to wait for 2 weeks for delivery mind.

I’ve notice my car is increasingly wearing the inner fronts. In for a full alignment at a local motorsport place in a few weeks to get it checked out.

Very keen to try the PZ5 too

OH, niiice. There was one for sale in yahoo auctions when I was there, starting at 200k yen, was sold for 215 I think. Really a bummer that we can't get a user... If you find something nice, you can have some proxy buyer, I found Japan rabbit that ships inside Japan.

Pirelli P Zero PZ5 fitted with Hunter Roadforce Elite machine this morning.

Noticeably quieter than PS4S. Not had chance to really push as roads are a bit damp in North Estonia this morning. Grip on damp roads is incredible. Good turn in feeling. Will be a good tyre for b-road blasts and summer adventures. Will update once I got some more milage on them.

I've said elsehwere that the one thing that stood out when switching to SportContact 7 from MPS4S was the initial turn-in had more 'bite'.

If the Pirelli can improve on that again then hats off.

Definitely get more bite in the turn in on these new Pirelli's. Would recommend these PZ5's already from initial feel. Can't wait to try them down my usual favourite road once weather dries up. Using my primitive decibel meter app on iPhone they are 3-4db quieter than PS4S at 90kmh on same road, still pretty loud though, but definitely took the edge of road noise.

So 2 weeks ago I went to north Weald for a drivers day and first run and reduced power. Kept happening every other run. With fault code flagging boost sensor which is a common failure apparently.

Cleaned my MAF at the same time as symptoms pointed to boost sensor, vacuum leak or MAF.

I checked all hoses but couldn’t see anything and after cleaning the MAF still some rough running. On running the car today to check something must have moved a bit more as straight away I could feel rushing air by the intake.

And voila

Hose had popped off the clamp for the intercooler. So tomorrow’s job is can I do it without taking the front bumper off!
