GR86 Vehicle Security

I'm glad my car wasn't stolen during the "drive home" insurance period. Toyota's insurance company could've said a claim was invalid due to the Toyota online team giving false information to customers about security?

If you've subsequently put "manufacturer security" when getting insurance presumably you are covered ok as you've not specifically said alarm? If Toyota have provided false information to the insurance database then that's not the fault of the customer.

I realise alarms make minimal difference to security but it's pretty crap that, once again, we find the cars we ordered are not in the spec we paid for. I suppose it's no surprise that Toyota UK continues to mess things up. No alarms and no surprises as Radiohead once said.

At least we have established why the insurance quotes are so ludicrously high, compared to other cars.

You would have thought that having fitted the GT86 with Alarm (and Bluetooth) at the Port of entry to the UK for years they would have at least done the same for the GR (even if it meant Ultrasonic Sensors on the A Pillars again).

Edging toward burn the witch now, I’ll refrain from posting that video to save Silver Fox going down a Camberwick Green/Trumpton rabbit hole and losing all his spare time.
Ha don't worry about that - I'm currently working a ridiculous three-month notice period before commencing a new job, so time is one thing I DO have...

Disclaimer: If any past, current or future employers read this I am joking

I have formally emailed Toyota (albeit my contact at their buy online team at this stage) of the 'alarming' condition of my vehicle. Should this not illicit the correct response I shall forward it on to a higher level. We shall see.

As Vic Reeves would say 'I wouldn't let it lie'.

Well it would appear that TGB might be monitoring the level of discontentedness here.

Further to my previous quite abrupt f*ck-off-agram reply from TGB, I've now had this:

Dear Stephen

I write with reference to my email dated 20 October 2023.

We've referred this matter to our European Head Office and I will contact you again once we've received their feedback.

Kind regards

I won't hold my breath, especially as I they have previously hidden behind 'different territories have different specifications' so am unsure why they would refer to European head office.

At least that might mean they didn't support Br*x*t, that's a plus...

What else would they do to pass the time between playing solitaire and sticking crayons up their noses ?

That said I’d have omitted the name of the responder out of courtesy as they personally may be as much a victim of circumstance as we are rather than deserving of personal ire sending their way.

Re European head office as an excuse as you say it seems odd. Whilst I suspect U.K. market cars are grouped under an EU umbrella to an extent for things like WLTP, hence the bloody OPF in the exhaust I would expect the U.K. importer to be where the buck stops before any issues that originate from, or are escalated to the manufacturer. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Agree, apologies. I have edited the post.

Although courtesy does look like a one way street...

Shall we all sing from the same song book?

Hello Toyota UK

I was lead to believe that my GR86 registration number “AL4RMS” had an alarm system, in addition to an immobiliser.

Your sales brochure, and you spec sheet of what would be supplied with the car, clearly indicates that an alarm system would be supplied.

I understand from internet GR Owners group sources that no alarm is fitted to my car, which in part might explain the absurd insurance group for the car.

So far we have had the parkings sensors, the auto dim mirror and now this further absent item against the GR86 UK marketed specification.

Please add my name and contact details to the list of owners that expect a resolution to this problem.

Regards…

Might as well not f*** about and find out who the CEO of Toyota UK is?

ETA: Looks like this chap

I was given the name Agustin Martin as the director responsible for customer relations and have asked for all my communications to be shared with him.

Unsurprisingly I haven't been given a direct email address.

Expect any emails to go via an administrative support function at this level, but it's a start.

Things we thought we were getting, but didn't:
  1. Auto-dimming rear view mirror
  2. Rear parking sensors
  3. Alarm
  4. A sense of contentment gleaned from dealing with one of the most efficient, and quality/improvement focussed large organisations in the world
Anything I've missed?
Yes, pearlescent paint that wasn't. (yes it still grates)
