GR86 Tpms

Despite the user manual declaring that two sets can be stored in the ECU, I had the same problem when swapping between wheel sets. In the end I bought myself an Autel MaxiTPMS TS508WF (link for information only). I got the Autel programming tool from an online retailer for £150 during a seasonal sale, but there are plenty of similar units around and they even sell them on AliExpress. The process of re-programming involves scanning each TPMS' data into the tool, connecting it to the car via OBD and pushing the data up to the ECU. Once stored in the ECU you can carry out the car's update process using the button in the glovebox, and because the TPMS are now 'registered' within the ECU they'll appear on the dashboard quite quickly. The whole process is repeated when the wheels are swapped again.
Careful with Autel, they country lock the hardware. I.E. China equipment will only do China TPMS and vice-versa. I learnt the hard way, UK Autel programmer won't do China sourced Autel TPMS.

I now use LAUNCH with their TPMS without any issues.

Will need to find someone with the correct gizmo to sync them or whatever they do.
So no pressure readings, but the yellow tmps warning light isn't illuminated?
 
Are the old wheels/tmps still in range? This could cause an issue, besides that I have seen some faults where they need abit of shock to start sending data back, either a bit of a drive or over inflating temporarily.

I will try the inflate to 40 psi thing to try and wake them up but reading the car's handbook they need programmed to the second channel anyway I think.

You can use the same codes as the OEM sensors. Your fitter might have done that, which might explain why you are not getting the yellow warning light.

To get the pressures to show, if I recall the instructions, press the button with the ignition on, but engine not running. Wait a few minutes, with the ignition on I think - the manual isn't clear on that! Then go for a drive. The pressures should show up after a few miles.
 
Went for a longer drive and the warning light has come on.

Restart not working.

Waiting for Launch tool off ebay. Figured a garage would probably charge as much.

you can only program launch TPMS with the Launch programmer.

What brand are your sensors out of interest? Trying to figure out if this tool will work with mine.

Autel MaxiTPMS TS501​


It picks up the pre-programmed TPMS sensors I bought off ebay but one of them seems dead/unprogrammed so i'm waiting on a replacement and will have to swap it out.

For anyone wondering the Autel tool can only programme Autel sensors.
 
I actually have a positive live update:
Another technician came up to me and said that I might have been mislead a bit by his colleague, and that he will try and code in the winter set as a second set of wheels.
Let's see if it works 🤞

Update:
It might be a success. They believe both sets are now stored but we can obviously only se that the winter wheels now work again, but hopefully I can now switch to the summer set with the button in the glovebox.
I can report back that it does work! Put on my summer wheels/tires this sunday, and after pressing the button in the glovebox three times in a row (as per Toyotas instruction) it switched to my second set of wheels after a short drive.
So Toyota are able to program in two sets of TMPS (while not cloning them) if they try hard enough.

They needn’t even have to try that hard. When I used my own Autel TPMS tool to do an OBD relearn recently, it offered me the option of saving to either the current (main) set or an alternative set.

You underestimate the ineptitude of their YTS. Have email chains back and forth on the day mine was in confirming exactly what I expected as they were confused. Still not tested it as the Summer wheels will probably stay on full time unless we have a bad Winter and I need to use it.
 
I'm pretty sure one of my oem valves has failed, losing pressure and when putting the gauge on it, the dial slowly climbs to the indicated pressure. Usually it'll fly up the dial with a 'shoop' noise as I'm sure you're all used to.

Do I get a single tpms valve from Toyota? Or can someone link to an aftermarket one they've got to work with the cars ecu/readout?

Not sure I need a set of 4.

I did a half track day in mine, adjusting the pressures until I got them where I wanted when up to temperature. After all that messing about throughout the day, my front left valve had a "slow puncture" sort of leak.

After a few fills of air, it stopped leaking and has solidly retained pressure ever since. As though part of the valve that was sticking had become unstuck.

Might be a different issue that you have, but if it isn't too much hassle, it might fix itself after a few fills of air.
