GR Yaris The waiting game...

Called my dealer for my monthly call. He didn't even ask my name or order number.
- What car is it?
- GR Yaris
- Yesterday someone else asked about the GR Yaris. No info this month, call us back in August.
So my dealer hasn't got an update on any of their GR Yaris orders since 2022. Doesn't sound promising, does it?

Some dealers are just lazy/useless, I wouldn't worry overly

As long as you know you have an actual order...

Indeed, most Toyota dealer customer interaction, providing large scale same for everyone appliances that removes technical interaction with the customer as much as possible, is the complete opposite of what a GR owner wants. I try to find small dealers that give a sign, any sign, they are interested in a GR product and hope it's the same next time you talk to their 'customer interface'... Exceptions apply.

When I was approaching the dealers none of them had really a clue or was interested in the GRY. They were like, o that sportier Yaris? Sure we could order one. But if you want all wheel drive, why no taking a propper car like the RAV. I was than slowly walking back out the door....

Or you walk in and see something in Pure White like this:

then you drive something in Pearl White like this:

then you get a tour an see the project car of the owner's son, looking like this:

(yes this is a Supra/BMW IL6 in a GT86)

well then you know you are in the right place to order something in Precious Black :giggle:

My GR Yaris story is very sad, a dealer had the exact spec I wanted only it was slightly used sitting at 800kms. I bought it at list price, I didn't even see it as I was out of town. Then I realized I don't need a car for ~8 months and the dealer told me a new order would arrive in 12 months. So I ordered a brand new one instead. 24 months later, I'm still waiting for the new one.

Horrible decision making on my end.

You didn't need a car for 8 months and the dealer told you a new one would arrive in 12 months, so you made the right decision with the information you had. It's not your fault the dealer got it wrong.

Is there any sign of one arriving for you in the near future?

Tomorrow marks the 2 year anniversary of my order getting registered in Toyota’s systems. I haven’t gotten a single update/info about the order in these two years.

Know that feeling. See my post #114

Don't give up hope! Mine took 2,5 years. I ordered in April '21 and the current estimated delivery time is September '23.

Speaking of which, my GRY just finished production and will be on its way together with some of your GRYs! :) I know how I'll spent my autumn holidays :D

I don't get why we few Germans have to wait so much longer than the other markets... what factors have influence on the delivery time? Market size?

Guys, I did something terrible. I did drove a MX5 2.0 with Billstein and Recaro seats today...

It was good. Very good. Its much more in the direction, I am emotionally attached to. High reving NA engines, light weight chassis. Good for road use, fast agile but not crazy fast and capable. Good fit for my driving skills.

They have a grey one ready for sale, new for 35k EUR. I am tempted.

I can not have both. I only want to pay and store and so on one car, so it has to be a daily. And the GRY and the MX5 are totally different cars. I am confused in my ability to make a decision. πŸ™‚πŸ™ƒ

Get a GR86. Unless you want the roof off, in which case get the MX5

Actually... this is were I was coming from when I decided to not buy a used FN2 but a new car. I love the looks and that it's kinda useable. It ticks many boxes but was not available back when I ordered.

I was thinking about going that way very often, but there was never a GR86 available other than at several thousands EUR markup... over most are at 43 k ish EUR. And only a handful in entire Germany.
