So, I'm sitting here staring at the wall and waiting.

One year passed since I placed my order, one and a half since I began thinking about doing so. So dealer keeps telling me it will come in September but I am absolutely not convinced. All these delays and most other German orders taking one an a half year. I am pretty sure it will come spring next year.

What have you guys done to keep yourself motivated and focused? I am starting to squint at other cars like the new Type R or even thinking about doing a motorcycle licence. Buying and building an old used JDM car or just building a wooden cabin in a swedish mountain to not let my brain wrapping around the GRY all the time. 😆

Seriously this is getting frustrating to not know anything. When it's coming, is it coming, what will the fuel costs be like when it's coming. I would be totally fine to hear, boy it's gettin late. Car is there 10th April. Stay tuned. But the dealer won't tell anything than, uhm also mein System sacht immernoch September. Watt solln das ständige Anrufen? Hamse bemerkte das Krieg und Corona is? (Roughly translated to: I'm telling you a sh*t, stop calling.)

Things change over time. I am worried the time the car is finally arriving my live is so different from what it was back when I ordered that it will not match any more. What was you experience after the long wait? Still fitting like a glove?

Just me and my thoughts. Sorry for complaining. 😅

Should have ordered sooner, some of us have owned the car for 18+ months ;)

What I would say is even if you did order a Type R the lead time would be longer than your Yaris.

Ye, sure. It's mostly a spinning thought. I allways came back to the GRY just before turning for an other round in a different direction. There is simply to much time to think about all that while waiting 😀 actually I was waiting for more informations on the GR86 and overlooked the GRY several times because it's charged and I normally prefer NA engines. But the GRY growed onto me. 😅

So, here’s my thoughts… And this is personal opinion of course…

We don’t live in quite the same world back when the GR came into fruition, and I think we have to adjust expectations, unless of course we are fortunate enough to be in the minority where money can overcome worldly factors.

For now, the days where there was a surplus of cars and dealers were throwing lease deals at you are over. My friend has a 300bhp Cupra Leon at the end of his lease deal, it was about £260 a month and his attempts to secure a new lease deal after that have been cancelled because of availability. Our waiting times may seem harsh, but they are across the board.

I don’t think we can compare now to what was available in the past, and other than paying over the odds, it’s a sellers market. If I had a GR on order, and I could still afford it and of course want it, I think I’d be counting my lucky stars. As frustrating as it might be, I think we have to adjust expectations, just look at the GR86 section.

Yeah it’s easy for me to say, having had one for almost a year, but stick it out. It’s not just a GR Yaris problem 😊

Yes. There are the little things that came up. For example I will not have my parking slot anymore when the GRY shows up. The Garage will be under construction. That's a freaking big deal when living in the city and the money for a slot isn't only ridiculous but also there aren't any slots at all. We are thinking about moving just to be able to park the car... or I'd have to say we have to move. My wife wants to make driving licence too. But we can't afford a second car. The problem should be obvious. She also would like to have a dog. Obvious problem too. Fuel has gone up 0.6 EUR per litre since ordering. Insurance rates are much higher now. Big inflation happens and so on. Many things changed. Maybe I'd come to an other decision when I'd have to decide today. Don't know but also does not matter. Things are what they are.

I just don't want to flip the car. I want it and I would fe bad waiting one and a half year and then doing so. And additional, I had to sign a paper from toyota japan when ordering, that I won't resell the car for at least 2 years, because so many flipped the car for rush money and fucked up the ordering and processing by that. So that's not even a possibility.

I just wish I had more information to plan moving, buying a parking slot and organising things like selling old car and so on.

But back to my question 😀 what did you make to keep you focused and not thinking to much about it while waiting?

Why did you have to sign something saying you can't sell the car for 2 years? It's a joke, do they think they're Ferrari now? It's your car, you can do what you want with it. Or are you never allowed to buy a Toyota again?
Just be patient, it's worth the wait, but it's not the first time you've heard that.

I was asking them too. Why I have to sign that. The dealer told me Toyota Japan had decided so to avoid the bad reselling market with pretty big mark ups. Because it hurts the customer all together. While understanding the problem and thinking it's necessary to keep the flippers at bay that only ordered to sell high, it's pretty much of a problem when planning several years ahead and things changing so fast.

Kind of understandable. Are there dealers here? who offer the used car 5000 to 10000 above the new price. It's incomprehensible why the importer doesn't do anything, but it's a shitty shop anyway.

Wait what? Iirc you ordered in September, my order was placed on 30.09. and I didn't have to sign anything. They didn't even want a deposit.

Also my dealer can't tell anything about when the car will arrive and they told me so right from the beginning. The only thing he could tell me last week is, they're still waiting on some March orders. Tbh internal communication from Toyota Deutschland seems really bad.

It is. I had to sign this paper and I put a down payment. But that was just to get better conditions. After two ar three weeks he called me and said the order is booked in and marked for September 2022. And he sticks to that like glued.

Do you have an order number?

My car's order was placed last June '21, I got the slot June '22.
What I have been doing is reading reviews/owners experiences and reading up on some of the tips & tricks as well as what is lacking in the car etc

It's an expensive car for me, I probably shouldn't be buying it BUT, the deal I got will make now the cheapest time for me to get one, a brand new one, that I can hopefully overpay and keep for many years.

I'm also compiling a bookmark section of bits and pieces to buy :D

Yep, got an order number and shown as "Processing" in MyToyota.

Very interesting. I also had another dealer tell me in September that he couldn't order anymore. When I ordered at my dealer he told me right away theres no way to tell for him when the car will be built, so the approximate ETA of Q3 22 in my contract won't be any indicator. Got the order confirmation from Toyota via e-mail on the same day.

Unfortunately it was one of those cars that you needed to act quickly on. I test drove one a week after they were available and signed straight away and I had to wait 6 months. The people that got theirs early (2020) signed up at the first announcement before the specs of the car were even known. You needed to pounce really!

I wouldn’t worry about the bit of paper you signed to say you won’t sell it for 2 years. That sounds like a load of nonsense and what would their recourse be if you sold it after a week? Not sell you a shitty Prius when you next go in there? Silly.

Just wait. When you’ve got the car you can enjoy it for a few months then decide if you want to keep it. I have a feeling you will, it gets under your skin. It has such awesome cross country pace that other cars feel sluggish, wallowy or skittish afterwards.

I’ll just leave this here. ☹️
I am honestly contemplating buying something else.....

Then I look here at the photos and the APR of the new GR and I think "Nah, I can wait a bit longer" :D

They did the same withe the new Land Cruiser.

"According to local magazine Creative311, owners must sign on the dotted line and agree not to resell the vehicle. It is believed customers are barred from doing so for 12 months after taking delivery of the Land Cruiser, and if that happens, they won't be allowed to buy another Toyota. It's unclear how long the ban lasts, but there seem to be some serious repercussions."

And so on. There were several articles like that.

I’ll just leave this here. ☹️

The longer this drags on the more likely I am to just spend my deposit on a cheap weekend toy.

It is a hell of a wait, I ordered the car 10 months ago and now it's finally on it's way, "left factory" couple of weeks ago. I'm still as excited as in the beginning, and for me the wait is not all bad, I managed to save up a big chunk of the price. But yeah, it's been very hard not to think about the car all the time. Then again this is the only car I want, there is no alternatives so it does not really matter how long it takes.

Each to their own but keep waiting . I just got on with my life , enjoying it , family , interests away from work , walking my dog ! Now nearly after 16 months since I ordered , car is at dealer and pick it up next week. It’ll be worth it , but each to their own. You can’t hurry Toyota along to make them any faster . Just enjoy other aspects of your life , only my 2 pence worth .

10 months ago? How did you manage that. Most of us are well over a year.
