GR86 The manual v no parking sensors

What will you do regarding rear parking sensors?

If I’d have thought earlier, I might have got them done before collection but I will most likely give it a miss now due to having PPF installed and not wanting to deal with the complications of drilling through that.
It’s a shame but I guess I’ll see how things go.
 
TOL agreed to pay for fitting of the sensors. Dont 'love' the look but will not dwell on it, they dont look aftermarket but dont look factory if that makes sense.
 
I emailed my TOL contact 15 minutes ago to ask about the reversing sensors.
He replied within 10 minutes that they would arrange fitting of the sensors for no charge.
 
I have done the same, made the request and got a positive response.

Just need a car to get them fitted.

I've never had a problem with cars that have just have a reversing camera in the past (touch wood). Plus the rear looks so much better without the sensors. Decisions, decisions...

I got a reply in the end to the same effect, looks like it is standard procedure to offer it if asked for.

Please could you let me know if the sensors stop working as soon as you come out of reverse like the camera does? My previous car had sensors which continued to operate until you engaged a forward gear, handy for reversing down an incline when it's safer to be out of gear controlling speed on the brake.

As soon as you are out of reverse, the sensors deactivate (so I'm fairly sure they won't work rolling in neutral from what I've tried but I can try again when it goes to the detailer on Friday). I think they are linked to turning on with engaging reverse gear and the reverse lights circuit.
 
Are TOL saying book it in, get it done and they’ll refund the money or they arrange it with the Dealer of your choice and sort out payment with them directly?
 
Can anyone confirm with the new fitments (non factory), do the beeps come from stereo or is there a small speaker tucked in the back as part of the install for the beeps?

From my experience so far TOL sort it all out, payment/parts ordering etc.

Separate speaker so stereo doesn't mute but the speaker is loud enough

Hmmm this is enough for me to not want to go ahead. If I’m getting them, I want them to be fully integrated. I know if see them as an afterthought and that would annoy me.
 
Aside from a different look on the rear bumper (not sure whether I prefer the look of the automatic either tbh), are there any functional differences between the dealer installed PDCs and the factory ones in the automatic?

E.g. integration with the head unit/rear camera, separate button/switch for turning them on/off or different speaker integration, as per above?

If they're functionally the same, I'll get them fitted as it should help with avoiding parking incidents in poor visibility and improve the resale value for free.

Yes, the camera still works. Just that the camera and the sensors don’t work together. They both work to tell you the same information though

Isn't it the same with parking sensors on the automatic GR86s? Unless I'm mistaken, the only functional difference is the look of the sensors.

I have never driven the automatic GR86 so I can’t comment on that. But I have driven two BMWs with parking sensors, and both are able to tell you the distance remaining by colour representation on the screen. I would expect a factory fitted system to provide something similar
