GR Yaris The Latest on GR Yaris (UK waiting list)

I’ll be giving them until Feb then if still no news getting my £500 deposit back and buying used.
I wouldn’t be waiting that long they should/will have the answers now.

Also and this is just my thoughts but if Toyota deliver the last of the cars in feb and then turn round and say no more are coming, all those holding out hope for a new car might go used and suddenly that 150 on autotrader are in demand. And that wait list is over 1,000 people so all you need is 10% of those on the lists to buy used for stock to drop.

Stock has already started to drop a little - gone from circa 165 to144 in a week or so on Autotrader. As you say, best ones will be snapped up PDQ soon after a ‘no more’ announcement.

I don’t think there will be a no more announcement. They are onto a winner with the gr yaris. Probably be restricted in what they build due to part shortages. As in autocar today they want to continue with the ice GR cars due to the success. Just hope it keeps coming to the UK

Oh, they can sell them no problem, but what’s the point if they are not profitable at the current price, particularly given costs have spiralled since launch. The production method and time taken for build makes those in the know (not me!) very dubious that the project was ever likely to be profitable. Sensational PR and marketing effort though.

If they were restricted in what they build why aren’t they taking orders again? They were happy to have a 19 month waiting list we are now at 3 months. With most manufacturers happy to be running at a year wait.

From all I've read it's not part shortages that are the ongoing constraint but production line capacity

Guess we'll find out soon enough

Yeah guess with the Corolla being built there things are tight. Hence the waiting time. Be nice if they tweaked a few things if they continue to build. 300bhp, no rear seats, better fronts seats and lower driving position would be a start 👍

What incentive is there for Toyota to do any of that? I can’t see it.

You don't fancy ringing the Toyota online team to check if you have an order in the system? If there isn't then you can get your money and if there is then happy Xmas!

Anyone reckon they might offer the GR Corolla to the UK? In a market where Honda can sell out a £47k Civic, surely the temptation must be strong! Even if it’s only a very limited number.

Nothing to suggest they are even considering it, but who knows what the future holds.

I'd doubt it though personally

Despite the excitement, I really can’t see it being worth their while here as sales would in my view be extremely limited. The vast majority do not want to pay circa (what would likely be) £45k+ for a Corolla when they could have a similarly performing Audi / Merc / BMW /VW for the same money.

There is no money for Toyota to be made by bringing in a very limited number, Just not worth the effort I suspect.

The number of cars for sale on Autotrader has dipped this last week or so I’ve noticed. Down from a peak of about 165 to 145.

Fewer and fewer brand new cars arriving and being flipped immediately?

Folk on the Main Dealer wait lists realising they won’t get an order slot and snapping up a used alternative?

Or just Christmas and New Year coming up and people focusing on that and not buying a car?

This will be the reason. Seen it happen many times before with other cars. There is always a lull over Xmas and new year as people don't want the aggro of selling and buying a car over the period.

@Gumptionza any update from your dealer?
nothing yet. i called Toyota online and they had no evidence of my name anywhere on their system so the guy at Toyota online said has going to contact my dealer and find out what's going on.

if the dealer wasn't still there I'd think I've been scammed out of £500.

That email sent out on the 31st may this year said i was no.493 on the waiting list... but i don't even know what that means, does that mean all the cars are already allocated and i have to wait until 493 people cancel their order so i can get one? but if so then why did i get to spec a(*my?) car and get an estimated delivery date? and if i were definitely allocated a car, why does nobody at Toyota have my name anywhere except on that mass email list that sent the email in may?

nobody knows, and nobody has given me a proper answer. I was going to give Toyota online another day before i called them back, but I don't trust they spelt my email address right and typing this rant out has worked me up, so I'm going to call them now...

Sadly for you that’s exactly what it means.

I suspect you won’t be using that dealer again in future.

Hopefully Toyota online can at least get clarity for you that the dealers been playing around trying to drum up business for cars that don’t exist.

Just had a chat to the guys at toyota online (who have been absolutely fantastic, genuinely) and they say that there are about 5000 people on the same waiting list as me, and the fact im a relatively low number is a really good thing for when the order books open again

which is reassuring, but you know, not actually helpful
