GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

Finally collected car no. 2!! Some people will remember back in August my car arrived and on collection day when the delivery film was removed there was dent on the bonnet and scratches.

It’s been quite the rigmarole since then and the worst buying experience I’ve ever had and it’s not quite finished but at least I’ve finally got a damage free car!!

Crap time of year to get it as most first batch owners will testify but it will be off to the detailers shortly and we’ll see what the weather does but it probably won’t get too much use until the spring unfortunately.

Was this at newbridge, western Toyota? Seen a grey one as I went to get my blue one from there but rejected last week as interior was damaged.

Glad you managed to get a fresh car with no damage, I also have a replacement on the way. Buying experience had been awful from the start but not too long now hopefully. All that’s left to do shortly is to own and enjoy!

Yes it was and likely my car. Although the damaged car has also been sitting there since August. 🙄

Yes been following your experience too, so infuriating isn’t it! What I can say though and I know a few others have said it too but it’s amazing how just getting in the car finally and driving off makes it all worth it.

Hope all goes well with your new car/collection soon and look forward to seeing you around/at a north of the border meet. 😀

I do feel like I've done something illegal
Haha! Not too dissimilar from me. Mine felt a bit like one of those 'barn finds'; registered in Feb '23 with only 37 miles on the clock and having been moved by covered transport from Dealership to aformentioned barn, then left parked up without a wheel turned in over 9 months. The £5,150 saving against my ordered car has been well used with regards to PPF, Ceramic Coating and several other modifications. Well played @Triggaaar ;)

Yeah, similar. You got the bonus of a nice smurf blue. Did you then pay for ppf or was it already on?

Let's hope you weren't right here: 😁

Maybe it's the Royal 'We'? I doubt it though. Sounds like either a dealer or an Engineering company that makes stuff for cars, or maybe tunes them. I think you are right to steer clear, you never know what's been fitted and removed or how many times it's been Dyno'd to within an inch of its life. Onwards my friend!!!

No, although basic 'prep' was done I have contracted a 'gold' protection package at my own expense. The current owner runs a Detailing business and is an approved Xpel PPF installer and a certified Gtechniq centre, so to my mind it made sense having it all done down there and then shipped up North, rather than having to take delivery and then send it to my local Gtechniq place for a week to get it done. Now when it arrives, all I have to do* is install the BlackVue, the Ghost immobiliser, add an S7 tracker, have the wheels done in Shadow Chrome with Calipers in Neptune Blue, followed by emptying my box of 'stuff'... nowt to it really

[*Modified Cat-back Exhaust to follow also]

To be honest Mike, it was me getting spooked and my own insecurities around buying from others after being burned once before. I have no doubt the car will be spot, i mean, you’ve got what is effectively a brand new car and saved thousands so nothing else to it really :).

You could drive that and put lots of miles on and then no doubt sell it later at no loss. You’ve got a bargain here I think.

Cheers John. I know what you mean, it certainly feels odd handing £29k to a complete stranger. I called the Toyota branch where he worked to check he worked there, and it checked out (did an HPI check too). He was quite a sweet young man who wanted to appear professional when talking to a potential customer, so he would constantly say 'we'. There's no way it was bought to dyno or fit after market parts, because it was only registered 5 weeks before he advertised it, and with the mileage they just wouldn't have had time to test anything. I asked if he had the artwork that came with the car - he had 2 lots, as he grabbed an extra from work.

He didn't get a discount when he bought it, so I don't know why he felt he had to sell it for £29k. It was brand new and I couldn't see a mark on it. But I guess with new ones still be available, he thought he'd have to offer something.

Sounds like you really did find a bargain after all! Welcome to the 'Cancelled-New-Bought-PreLoved' club. Money saved is money to spend elsewhere 👏
