GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

OK folks received my phone call today. Great stuff. Mine was a 10:11 order, estimated delivery is late August into September. The car has a stock number which I believe is a basically a build allocation but isn't in the process of being built yet.

I did ask a few questions on behalf of those who have concerns and have not received the call.

First off the team are aware of the GR-Zoo community and the concerns and speculations on here. Everyone who has an order confirmed should not worry and will get a car. The team are very busy and are continuing to process orders. It's worth noting that they do no just process the GR86. The release of the Aygo X and an exclusive online order only grade adds to the mix.

Rest assured you will get a call and not having received it yet doesn't reflect your order state. Some early orders will already be further down the progress line.

Thank you for this, so can I con confirm that if I have an ORCA mail followed by an order number mail followed by a pearly white car in my Toyota saying I will be contacted by mail that my order will be honoured, and I just need to be patient and spend a few quid on my daily MX5 as it won't be up for sale anytime soon!!

Exactly that. The only thing you should be thinking about now is WHEN will you receive your pearly white car. As Polymorphic pointed out some of the later orders are likely to take a while to get through the factory and over here.

So realistically with a 10.44 confirmation it could well be 2023 looking at the lower digits of minutes here!! Looks like new discs and pads all round and those Ohlins with corner weighting Ive always wanted on the 5!!

I would base all future purchases and sales on your follow up call. ;)

My soft top NC MX5 was corner weighted and had Meisters fitted. Of all my MX5’s it was the best handling. Worth spending the money if you’re waiting a while for the GR86:LOL:

far far better set up than my Prht as it is on Billy’s!! 😂😂 to be fair even stock they turn in with so much speed, nothing to push on after that 😂😂

I reckon they are going to be making these calls for months at the rate they are going at, as a 10.28 I'm not expecting to get the call until June at the current rate of progress, we are told the time of the call doesn't effect your order being processed & if that's true then I guess we just have to be patient but I'm not convinced that we are in for anything but a long wait, I'm still of the opinion that Toyota's communication has been poor at best

It’s been awful in my opinion.

Hundreds of customers paid £1000 deposit without confirmation of delivery, countless more paid additional deposits to dealers - which then took weeks to get back, multiple credit checks, refused finance due to the multiple checks, promises of contacting us within ‘a few days’, no response to emails asking for updates.

I work in the finance industry and if my company acted that way we would be facing a substantial regulatory fine.

I am considering making a formal complaint and escalating to the FOS just to make them aware they can’t get away with this. I appreciate there is a small team working on the orders but that’s not our problem. They can quickly upscale their outfit if they want to meet the customer service standards they promised, i.e contact within a few days.

Sorry, rant over!

I work for a Swiss bank in compliance - not sure you have a legit complaint. I got an order confirmation minutes after placing the order. It is only your assumption that the call is necessary. The follow up call is just a courtesy.

They are holding deposits at a time when inflation outstrips interest rates (to your benefit and their loss) and honouring finance rates maybe upto 18 months when they will super competitive!

We all know they mucked up the launch, but to their credit, they are honouring their promises. So, not the time I would necessarily choose to throw any toys out of the pram to be honest! 😉

Compliance… typical response 😂

The radio silence hasn't won them many admirers that's for sure but I'm willing to cut them slack for now. Can't be easy with the chip shortage, rising material costs, liasing with a production line in another company and the like, and as we found out today they are handling other orders not just GR86 orders. A blanket email to everyone wouldn't be too much to ask though even if it only says, bear with us, you will be getting a car and will be in touch ASAP.

My FOS complaint would be in regards of the consumer principle of TCF. I have legitimate concerns over negative impact on my credit rating yet they have not bothered to respond to one email 🤷‍♂️

Maybe I just have high standards?

100% agree think its appalling. Largest car company in the world and they can't even send a email reply (I know Toyota UK are a separate part, but the company as a whole is the enterprise).
If not maybe trading standards would be the other option. I can't think of another company that would be allowed to process payments and credit on the same way with little or no communication 😕.
Have to say as a first time potential toyota customer, which supposedly prides itself on service, it's the worst customer service I've experienced from a car brand.

Guess on a positive for me, I only paid a £250 deposit :ROFLMAO:
I would also probably be annoyed if I paid the £1000 with no communication or if I did the PCP route and had a hard search on my credit file again with no further communication.

There is no doubt the launch has been a complete hash by TUK , upset Dealerships , upset customers who managed to secure an ORCA number and I’m sure 1000 totally P🤬🤬🤬ed off folk on the waiting list and who knows how many that didn’t even get on the waiting list, for a car that apparently if you haven’t got an ORCA number you won’t be getting one 🤷‍♂️

The communication can only be described as “poor” at best, if it were an exam TUK would have got a “fail” , BUT , if what @Polymorphic and others have shared is correct if you have an ORCA you will be getting the car you really want, and we are actually the VERY LUCKY ones , if it wasn’t for the information shared on here I wouldn’t have an ORCA number.

All I can say Is I’m looking forward to seeing you folk somewhere in your GR86s possibly here, if you know where it is 🤔 😎

As bad as it's been I think some perspective is needed. If you have an ORCA number, it means you have a car. May be a while to wait but you will get one. Feel for those who ordered Kia's or VW group cars who got told 8-12 weeks at time of ordering and now are being told Christmas 2023! When I ordered a new Skoda in May 2011 (yes I know a while ago), The order went in with a £200 deposit and I had NOTHING until September to say car was here. No updates, no tracking of any kind, no calls.

Yes it's a hard credit search but I have no issue with it. And they'll do another nearer the time. That's also fine. Stops me ordering a Tiger 1200 and they have to make sure I can actually afford the car. I rarely use credit bar one 0% card for emergencies and finance on a bike which will be done soon. This I think is pretty normal.

Could the process be better? Absolutely but hopefully they'll learn from it for next time (the Japanese tend to). They've probably have a small team since it's a part of their process to be efficient but demand has obviously caught them out. Online ordering is where this is going. For new cars, bar some needing test drives before wanting to order (and the £1k is refundable anyway) I don't see the need for big dealers anymore. That's their end goal.

What we do know is:
- If you have an ORCA number you have car and they'll be in touch. Either by phone or email. Most of us have been.
- A car then appears in an app for you to track progress (this had it's own issues but is at least some visibility of progress)
- If/when they do phone, they've answered many questions, lots have said they've been really helpful and have said they'd email/phone you with monthly updates. This is where most of us now are
- Demos will be in dealers June/July time for us to have a go. If you don't like it at this point you can still refund and cancel.
- The hype train has well and truly left the station and journos will be all over it soon.

I'm excited too. More than I've been for ages since new cars is a very rare thing for me but we have to keep calm and try to be patient. I'm personally enjoying the rabbit hole of detailing stuff and mods. I happy I'm in line to get a car which is the last of it's kind, a dying breed. Something I hope to keep as long as I can. People need to keep calm and enjoy it. The expectation is something to be enjoyed too.
