GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

Just had a quick call with my dealer in Stratford upon Avon where put down "reservation" fee. Confirmed a similar story as some of you earlier today.
1) £500 fee will be refunded but I need to come in person to pop the card into the machine.
2) I need to order online from Wed 10am, I'm more than welcome to come round to the dealership and they can assist me but pretty pointless as it will be quicker to do it yourself.
3) they were unclear what's required for that online application form as they don't use it but advised to have a scan of a driver's license handy just in case.
4) they were unclear about the finance checks, but if you passed the checks recently at the dealership probably wise to stick to the same parameters and you may have this step out of the way when Toyota finance check your details in their database - just an opinion rather than a confirmed info - but makes sense.
5) they were happy to help at any step of the process before and after if I decide to choose them as a delivery point.
6) part exchange - unclear situation atm - once the order reaches them this could open up some options to include it but they were not prepared to promise anything today given limited info and Toyota UK blowing hot and cold :)

Hope that helps, seems like we're starting to get some more consistent comms now, time to enjoy Easter and reflect back at colour choice while painting Easter eggs ;)

Website is bound to crash. Will be the usual nonsense and spin about high level of demand taking them by surprise. They are more interested in pushing out all the marketing cr*p on Twitter and Instagram and haven’t a clue what customer service looks like. DIY order system, screw the dealers who have invested millions in their business just to try and create a bit of online hype. They suddenly think they are the new Tesla ! Are the dealers really going to be interested in doing a great PDI etc at handover when they are given a few Bob for each car

Everything has just been a bit anti-climatic hasn't it. I had been really geared up to get my order in this week and was then happy to keep driving my current car until the 86 rolled up in July/Aug/Sept

I'm now kind of past it I think. I really want one. it's the exact formula that I want and other similar offerings around the price point just aren't practical enough for me...

Alas I have a meeting that will stretch the majority of Wednesday and I'm not willing to wait beyond Sept for a car because I don't wont to put my current one through another MOT.

For me, I think the wind has gone from the sail a little...

I feel the same way - in your situation I would instruct dealer to try get one for you at 10am weds. Its anti-climatic indeed and a shame that my only new purchase is such a meh experience but I do think it'll all be worth it once you're in the car! Especially in a couple years where there are little to no options for cars like these. Think Toyota need to stop taking lessons from the Glastonbury / Porsche GT / Nike sales model lol

They’ve still not given much clarity on what dealers are doing with deposits etc.. a post on pistonheads suggests they can go through the process with you but you have to pay.. 🤷‍♂️

For those who ordered online at the weekend, did you get anything out of Toyota as to whether we need to re-order on Wednesday? I can still see my order status as purchased online. The person I asked this morning didn’t know whether it would stand or would need re-entering.

No but the person I spoke to said she expected it to be next week in all honesty.

I'm gearing myself up for a making a phone call Tuesday afternoon once we've obviously heard nothing back from them.

Nothing heard either - went through loan check, uploaded driving license, received order code and e-mails, £250 deducted from my bank.
Will wait to see if I hear anything on Tuesday AM and then e-mail the on-line team to check status.

To be better prepared for wednesday 10 AM online ordering, please register for My toyota account well in advance of wednesday. Minimum you require e-mail address and mobile number linked to the my-toyota account.
**For dealer online order on your behalf is tricky as not sure how without your My toyota username and password. Be prepared dealer still might have to register the new my toyota account on your name and wait for your e-mail confirmation to authenticate the my toyota account, but still either you have to be at the dealership to enter the my-toyota login & password to order on your behalf.

I went and collected my refund this afternoon. I had quite a long conversation with the sales manager and he said whilst they can assist with orders either in person or over the phone, the order has to be placed by the individual using the Toyota website. So I guess the onus is on the buyer to get the My T account set up in advance.

The information was posted on this thread.

Toyota modelling themselves on Viagogo. Be like going online for concert tickets knowing all the best ones have already been sold.

Was going to put my order and colour on the poll but think it’s best to wait and see if I have actually ordered one or not :ROFLMAO:

The person at Toyota UK I spoke to told me there was nothing else I needed to do (having placed an online order) and I should get an allocation on Wednesday. Others have heard differently from the same source though ...

I feel it’s inevitable the website will crash next Wednesday and a lot of people will be left disappointed. Feeling pretty disheartened which feels insane when you realise it’s over a Toyota sportscar that under normal circumstances would be churned out by the thousands.

It’s probably better to prepare for disappointment and hope that it all goes smoothly on the day.

Conflicting messages from different people who have made contact with Toyota is seems. I placed an online order but now debating just ordering again on Wednesday and probably will if Toyota don’t confirm by then that the orders placed prior will be honoured.

I feel deflated after feeling so positive about purchasing a new car. Do Toyota UK realise how they have made enthusiasts like us feel? Do they even care? It’s probably been pats on the back all round at HQ over how they have recovered from accidentally making the website live early.

...and that makes the situation even more crazy!

There'll will be enough people trying to order already without those that already have internet orders trying again to cover their backs (n) Even if they do tell me the order will go through I won't believe them until I see it now!

More piss poor communication from Toyota. Has really taken the shine off this purchase sadly.

New on here. I ordered a GRY sometime in 2020 via MyToyota and thought it was an excellent experience. I saw the news on the GR86 last week so logged into my existing MyT account to put an order down over the weekend without really thinking about it too much. Anyway, I found they had taken two £250 deposits from my account in error (I didn't order 2 cars!) so called them up today to check. They reimbursed one of the payments and said they will complete my order when the book opens officially next week. Apparently I won't need to do anything else as I'd done all the required checks already. We will wait and see.

They also don't do the bank test payments thing anymore to validate identities and bank account details. I don't know if that's because I'm an existing customer or not.

Then I came on here and saw this thread......

Good luck everyone with your orders next week!

The FOMO is off the scale though so this is playing into their hands. People thought it might have a slow uptake but all the talk of limited numbers, huge demand and an instant sellout means they’ll 100% be celebrating at corporate HQ. It’s like the Porsche GT3 allocation but you can’t give the dealer principal a backhander.

It’s a perfect storm for attracting the attention of scalpers. I’m also annoyed at myself for putting a deposit down last week as I’d have ordered through the link last weekend if I hadn’t and it seems those orders are being honoured.
