Evening all.
I took the morning off cyber-stalking the GR86 to wander a deserted shopping centre. Literally nobody in a huge Nando's at lunchtime, just two staff chatting across dozens of empty tables.
"Please wait to be served".
The girl at the Chinese medicine shop, playing with her 'phone. The fluff machine at Build-a-Bear, sending stuffing around and around and around. But nobody wanted a bear. Nobody wanted anything. There was nobody there.
"Please remain socially distanced".
Came home, eventually. There was a lorry fire on the bypass; traffic stopped in both directions. Gridlock. Twenty minutes took two hours. Sandwich.
Turns out there was some news on the car. What did I miss? An e-mail at last! First time for everything. Oh, next week.
Called Toyota. No news. Online only. No decision on online orders. Realistically not today. Maybe next week. Okay.
Called dealership. Salesman off 'til next week. Everyone else in meetings. Will call back. Okay.
Called back! First time for everything. Online only. Okay. Will send message to Relevant Department to action refund of deposit. Might host a little event next week for customers to place orders at the dealership. Fair enough. Thank you bye.

It's been a funny couple of years, hasn't it? Eighteen months ago, if I had known my biggest problem today would be confirming an order for a sports car, I would have thought life had turned out better than expected. So I suppose it has.
I'm going to try and remember what I told myself all through the lockdowns and family separations and occasional grief over the last two years: none of this matters.
I hope we all get a car. I hope we get the colours that we like the best. And I hope one day soon, you will be out - on your own, or with someone you love - pootling along down some quiet country road in your new GR86, with all of this long forgotten.
I will make the calls, I will pay my deposit, and I will wait my turn. If it never comes, so be it. I will not let this become a misery. There's been enough of that already.
Good luck, everyone. And a Happy Easter.
