GR86 That "Toyota Smell"

What is it about Toyotas? - in my experience, they seem to all have a distinctive "smell" in the interior. Perhaps it's the plastics/glues used, or the headlining material/carpets/mats - I don't know what it is but all Toyota cars have a signature smell... (and no, it's not "Driver Generated!"

Anyone else agree?

EVO Mag even commented on this smell in their EVO Car of the Year 2022 test of the GR86.....

I get that plastic new car smell also. But i get it in hondas also (thats the only other new car i bought, decades ago).

It definately does not smell like new BMWs (friends car).

Can confirm my GR86 smells the same as Toyota's I sat in when I went to Japan. There is a distinct smell.

I didn’t notice any smell when I got mine. My Nissan on the other hand gave me a headache and made me feel sick for 2 weeks. And that was leaving the windows open on the driveway and when driving it to let the new car chemical smells out.

The Mann active carbon cabin air filters remove the smell. interestingly Mine was replaced with stock on a service on Monday and the smell is back!
