Anyone have this? Thoughts if so?

I really want a carbon vented bonnet and this has a decent price, plus I think it looks better than the alternatives. Maybe even the GRMN one.

But I notice it's 8KG whereas the OEM is 6KG. Not a massively big deal but it irks me that it's heavier. I spoke to Tegiwa who say it's due to being made of CFRP, but other "proper" carbon bonnets weigh around 3-4KG. Would you prefer CFRP or proper carbon?

I'm not too sure why I'm even posting this, guess I just wanna see what you guys think.

I'd also like a matching carbon badge panel as the coloured moustache bit looks silly IMO, but I can only find the Tanso one which has split weave and wouldn't match this bonnet. Does anyone know of another that might match? Tegiwa say they could get some made if there's enough interest.

Cheers

Yeah it's a shame as you want something lighter than OEM not go backwards! o_O
I'd just wrap the bonnet to match the roof = job done! :giggle: (y)

Carbon, or carbon fibre is carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).

If it’s heavier it’s because it’s thicker or has more reinforcement.

I’d like to understand the thinking behind fitting a heavier aftermarket bonnet. I understand aesthetics are important, but the reason carbon racing parts look cool is that are lighter and stronger. When they’re heavier it’s a bit silly.

But then lots of things are silly. Like stancing a rally homologation car.

I don't like that it's heavier but 2KG ain't much and I mainly want it for the vent to reduce temperature, plus I think it looks good. I have considered wrapping my bonnet but then I'd still have no vent.

Good to know that CFRP is 'proper' but I wonder why the underside doesn't look like carbon at all.

Anyway, I think I might go for this but I'd really like a matching badge panel. Anyone come across one?

good option would be to get a factory hood from crashed GR and then make ducts to that. lightweight and good fitment.

Gotta say I like Scara one, but not sure if they provide any papers for homologation. I'd like to legalize at least what's seen from the outside.

Yeah the Scara one looks mint, I love the matte look too! Would match the OEM wrapped roof better but I bet it's not cheap and I'd probably have to pay VAT on import. Same with the £1349 GRMN clones on Ebay.

Not keen on spending £2k on a bonnet which is another reason I like this Tegiwa one.

I installed it, and the actual weight is only about 1KG heavier than the OEM product. The OEM product is not 6 kg. My actual measurement is about 7.4KG, including some hardware accessories and insulation cotton. The hood of this TYPE-M The only good thing is that it's cheap and then there's a simple opening to help with heat dissipation, which is actually pretty useful, but really no good for the quality of the exterior carbon cloth, and it's pretty bad, I'd swap out the OEM ones the only good thing is the OEM The hood is very expensive, so it is a good choice to replace it with a cheap TYPE-M, at least any damage is less distressing.

I was looking at buying one, but realised there's nowhere under the bonnet to attached the bonnet stay or bonnet stay clip. How have you got round that? Have you got any close ups of how bad or good the weave quality and finish is (you say it's not good).
Also interested to see what the chicken-wire grill looks like too - does that also look cheap? ,
Last question i promise - when it rains, where does the water run to?

Great questions RallyRob, no bonnet stay could be a deal breaker. @shoeihsieh thanks for responding, it looks good on yours but do you have this info and any more pics please? Cheers

I would like to express my opinion that the holes are too small, too far in front of the windshield where the pressure is highest, the bonnet is too heavy, there is no temperature and barometric pressure data and there is no material/MOT certificate gives . The only advantage is the price. Why not copy the GRMN Bonnet, it features a removable rain cover and has been tested for functionality. As for me, I'm waiting for bonnet vents with detachable rain covers. We need that and therefore no larger intercooler.

My take
- Bit small holes but functional as they sit at the backside of a step down. GRMN area not huge either.
- GRMN rain cover needed because openings were directly above the cars electronics. Here it seems less an issue but obviously can't be sure. At least at speed it should see no ingestion due to position, static it could be equal to pooring out a drink in that specific postion on the engine.
- The perfect vented hood isn't here yet (at reasonable price at least), personally do not care about material, rather it being light enough and well engineered, the venting is imho much more important than kilo more or less... Given that this seems a decent enough offering....

Yes I agree with you, the ventilation works through the step and weight, it's not 10 kg and the price is hot. But why such small holes, the GRMN is 2.5 times larger, I have no video that could show that.
I'm driving my GR Yaris on the trailer for the event and have experience venting the hood without a rain cover. The water goes everywhere and then steams like a steam engine. Second hood or masking is not for me. A lot of people buy things that look good. I look at things to see if they are working optimally. Data would be good for me.

Spot on.

On this point, driving a ICE car hard enough in the rain, it will steam up coming to stop. Then having vents to let the steam out isn't a disadvantage at all and it's just another form of cooling. The only issue is if it interferes with electronics.

Yes exactly, and there is stubborn dirt and rust. That is why rain hoods protect the engine compartment from these inconveniences. Water has the ability to go where we wouldn't expect it to.
Let's look for hood vents for our GR Yaris. They're cheaper and if they're designed for us, they should work. I don't trust those ABS things, they melt in the sun, I had ABS louvers but they were also mounted in the hood over the turbo and deformed. I would try laminating the rain hoods with the male/female shape and attaching them to a glued on aluminum frame with nuts. Are there specialists here from Australia they need vents?
