GR86 Sold Out!

My car is on order and at the dealer, but not paid for and awaiting the scratch repair. I might head down tomorrow and see if the dealer has this offer on a different car. Toyota online don't work weekends, so I can't ask them about the new lower price.

To be honest, I'd just order one from Woodford Green asap. Pay on collection, and then cancel your first order. If you still want your first order, you could also contact T online and ask for the new price, and if they give it, you don't need to go ahead with the Woodford offer.

Sounds good. I can shed some additional light on this, if it helps. So, being proper OCD in my nature (and a pain in the ass to most) I’ve managed to reach a few different main dealers around the UK and none of them can offer anywhere near the discount’s Hills of Woodford have. Keep in mind, Hill’s of Woodford not only changed their price 3 times in 24 hours but also said “Toyota authorised us to reduce prices” which isn’t true, I have a close contact who is a sales manager at a major Toyota dealer who read out the bulletin to me over the phone today, it said nothing about price reductions and simply said that customers can walk into a dealer and have an order placed but still needs to go through Toyota first. So these discount’s Hills are doing are on them (if legit) who knows what’s going on there but it does smell a little now, regardless, it’s a decent deal if it’s real but seem to be the only dealer I can find doing this.

I am going to let this go now but will follow with the thread out of interest, I’m satisfied enough ive not been robbed of good money without jumping through hoops and making life more complicated. If there is really left over stock and it goes cheap, then that’s how it is sometimes (goes off and quietly cries …)

I am reluctant to change now, but will be on to Toyota on Monday to ask about the new lower price.

I don’t think there is a new lower price. Dealers can now buy them and sell them on as they see fit is what I understand. If they eat into their margins for whatever reason then that’s at their discretion.

Good luck for the new arrival! Mind post pics :-).

Cover your bases, get on to Hills, they’ll take a deposit on the understanding that if you can’t cancel your existing agreement it can be refunded. Then see where you are on Monday with the Online team.

Not great, but the extra allocation of cars that Toyota GB secured was probably organised in the Spring and given the sheer number on the waiting list, they probably thought they could easily sell them.

They hyped the fact it sold out quickly (i'm sure we played our part in that) and the interest in the car I guess helped secure more cars - in hindsight perhaps they should've brought in less, but with the GR Yaris success (originally 1500, reality 5k) they went for it and in turn helped lots on here who missed out secure a car.

6 months later it's a different economic landscape, cars are depreciating again, interest rates have risen and it looks like they've got the some left over that they must register this year due to legislation.

It won't be the last time a dealer or manufacturer discount a desirable car but the majority bought it because it was a great drivers car and not as an investment. Flippers will lose, drivers should enjoy it and move on.

We all want to get the best deal possible, but it doesn't always go to plan.
Spot on

I placed an order back in July, based on the decision I had to pay full online price to secure the purchase. At the time it was made clear that this was the only way to own a GR86 and not available at to buy through a local centre. I do feel misled now that anyone can walk in off the street and buy a new one at a discounted price through Woodford Green Toyota 😢

I haven't picked up mine yet, but this leaves a bitter taste if TOL doesn't offer me a discount. There's no reason why I won't be able to make another order and save £2k to put on other things. About to press the button on getting the cheaper one and cancelling the other order.

In your position I definitely would. I ordered mine with TOL back in July and at the time I was told online sales only and would never be available discounted through dealer network. I feel that Toyota have been disingenuous here and have scammed many buyers with their marketing spiele, with text implicating deadlines to make orders and threats of missing out on an exclusive online deal. To be honest I always wanted a GR86, but back in July I had to make a rush decision to sell a 7 month old Yaris and withdraw savings quickly to secure the purchase. While I have no regrets and intend to keep the GR86 for many years I do however have a problem with Toyota’s marketing around the exclusivity and urgency of purchasing a car for fear of missing out on a lifetime opportunity. 😢

I collected my car just over 2 weeks ago before all this news came out about discounted cars and finally confirmed to be true, otherwise I'd have returned the car within the 14 day period and save 2k!

This and the issue about the alarm just about makes it the last time I will trust their online purchasing process and will definitely not be purchasing another GR product from them in future as good as they are.

Anyway, I've just sent an email to TUK asking them to put in writing the alarm issue as well as my disatisfaction with the recent discount and asking (knowing full well they will refuse) to take my car back as I only missed the 14 day return deadline by a few days and the car has less than 50 miles so far.

I was on the sidelines as to whether to make a formal complaint about the alarm to the omnbudsman, but with this latest development, it has just tipped things against them...

The Toyota website now states the online sales are no longer available and you should contact your local dealer to purchase. I guess the reason is that sales via a local dealer will mean non refundable deposits and no 14 day cooling off period giving which would have caused issues for them as time passes.

I am in the process of seriously considering this, as a £2.2k saving is just too good.

If I've ordered via TOL, with Mudflaps and Parking Sensors (Installed via Dealer), but have not paid a £1, does anyone know if I can cancel it and recieve the full £1000 deposit back?

@KenC you are right as the dealer deposit is £500 non refundable. So I'll need to know how much I'm losing out on my TOL purchase first. Still below the £2.2k Saving no matter what the loss.

Your TOL deposit is fully refundable at the moment so have no worries on that front.

Burrows Toyota, £500 saving, order now for December delivery

It seems they're as clued up as T Online:
"Price does not include cost of Metallic or Pearl paint options. £500 saving is against original list price. ORDER NOW FOR DECEMBER DELIVERY. LAST FEW REMAINING. DONT MISS OUT..... , Pearlescent Sapphire Blue Pearl, £31,995"

The Blue should be £32,495 + £9xx for the paint. So first they say the price doesn't include the paint, and then they say the blue is £32k.

On top of that I spot a £350 not including installation ducktail spoiler, if it's the one they're trying to sell matches the picture. All chaos and connumdrums is happening right now. 🔥

The picture is not of an actual car, they don't have one in stock. They are getting back to me on colour availability.
