GR86 So what else could you buy new for the same money (a fun thread)?

@Silver Fox It's only the 2.0d (with 48v assistance) but perfectly good for what we need. Tried the 3.0d and whilst it is a silky smooth 6cyl beast, we really didn't need the extra oomph given the RS I already have and the GR86 which will appear "one day"
Perfect for visits to the outlaws in France with the mutts and beyond.

Sold the Peugeot 308SW - that was definitely in the "bland" category!

Good choice and entirely fit for purpose.

The BMW plus RS plus eventual GR86 - that's a great stable you (will) have there; something for pretty much any eventuality

I bought a ‘stop gap’ whilst I was waiting for the GR86 to come.

Before ordering I had an immaculate Octavia VRS which I loved but the used prices went through the roof and I made nearly £6k so had to chop it in. The idea was I would put that towards something a bit more special. Hence ordering the GR86.

I found a really cheap A4 TSI about 250 miles away so went for that, thinking it would do me for a few months. But it’s not going to keep me interested if I have to wait another 12-18 months.

Strangely I really fancy a pickup. Always been an urge that I haven’t yet scratched.

Anyone had one as a personal, non commercial vehicle? It’ll be something nice like a newish Amarok or Hilux. What puts me off slightly is whether I can use my car NCB on the insurance as never had commercial vehicles before.

Just to add I have a new Skoda Kodiaq as the family car, the boss drives that and loves it. That rarely changes.

My car changes at least once a year.

I had a Kodiaq for a while, liked it for it’s intended purpose but it had a hateful, sleepy gearbox unless you had it in sport. Despite that I miss it and would have another but maybe a VRS.

I’ve also looked at a new Hilux Invincible X but if it was a case of being unable to use my NCD then I’d go for a landcruiser active. I’d like something that’s good off-road next.

Not cars. I very nearly gave up on cars completely last year but I wanted a GR86 since the first rumours. I'd get two bikes to go along with my Street Triple RS. A new Triumph Tiger 1200 and a used BMW S1000RR

I must admit the auto is just as you described. I had a manual 4x4 TDI originally and just swapped it in for a petrol auto, the manual was so much better. That being said I rarely drive it and as long as the wife is happy with it then I can’t complain.

Ideally I would like a pickup and the GR86 on top of the family car, but not sure I can get justify running two additional cars when I do about 1000-1500 miles a year.

New Civic Type R out today , should get to know prices ? Definitely looks better than the FK8 and not has though it crashed into Halfrauds and came out covered in tat 👍

I can't imagine it being any less than £38-41k in the current market, which is what used examples under a year old are selling for.

Yeap, big fan of that. I reckon RRP will be £38k.

I like the FK8 and came so close to buying one. Liked how it looked, loved how it drove. The new one no doubt will be better again but with the FK8 it was built and designed as Type-R first then normal one after, which is why an FK7 to me always looked odd without a spoiler. This looks OK but some ways looks too generic, especially side and it's gone the other way. Even the spoiler looks like an after thought. I can see it being just under £40k though. Used face lift FK8's are still going for stupid money.

The only positive for me is they've got rid of all those fake grills, the rest of the car meh. The spoiler looks like a cheap and tacky aftermarket one..

I like it but dunno if I’d buy one at at the expected 40k price. It’d be an FD2 or FK2 for me, both of which would give a much more raw driving experience. I’d like to add either of the above in the mid term.

How about one of these bad boys?

That new civic is massive. It's almost (by about 5cm) as long as a 3 series.

Perhaps it's time for a thread re-animation.

With the revised GR86 price of £32.5k.

How about the trusty one-litre VW Polo example again, now specced up to £32, 510?

Got to pay £34.5k for an LSD though. Although it also gives you Brembo brakes.
