GR86 Second service costs

I agree @Gibbo78, but I sometimes wonder how deeply some dealerships analyse each vehicle when they come in.
Take mine for example; Two years old and 3,400mls. I would expect them to not just blindly run through a tick sheet but to see something like:
Brake fluid - 20k/2yr ✅ Done.
Rear Diff - 20k/4yr ❎ N/A.
Which is exactly what my Independent Specialist did. He even marked the new oil filter with a date in paint pen 🥰.
Still undecided as to whether I’ll return to Toyota next year as I have no service plane to keep me loyal 🤔.

Almost time for my 2nd service. Really unsure if I should go to an independent or take it to a toyota dealership, my local is Coventry and I will not be going there again.

If taking it to an independent means I can save some money that means more cash for mods too. 😬

Your first two services can be done at an independent, without affecting your warranty, as long as Toyota parts are used accordingly.
My year 2 service was completed by a JDM specialist and cost significantly less than a Toyota dealership.
From year 3 onwards, if you wish to maintain the rolling 12m warranty (up to 10 years) then a Toyota dealership is the only way to go.

I’ve just had my 2 year with about 10k miles, no diff oil replacement as far as I can tell. I’ve flagged it to the service manager because I may do more than 10k miles before the next full service (and to be blunt, I’ve bloody paid for it!). Being Friday night I doubt I’ll hear for a few days.

I just called in and one of the techs looked into it. Apparently it only needs replacing at 4 years/40,000 miles on their system. Kind of odd that the book says 4 years/20,000 miles and it’s listed on the full service list when booking online (perhaps it means “if due”?). Also no difference in price between the 2 and 4 year service, so you’d think they are the same. He did say they could do it at an additional cost, which I declined.

With my 5k annual mileage I’ll be right around 20k at the 4 years service, so probably not a big deal but do feel a little uneasy about the whole thing.

If you paid the £550 2nd year, then you paid for the diff oil change.

I’d be insisting, I never pay for something I’ve not got.

Thanks both. I have emailed the service manager again to say I’m still not satisfied and feel that I have paid for a service that I haven’t received. I have also sent a message to Toyota GB to see that their position is on it. Kind of crazy that this seems to be going about 50/50 depending on the dealership doing the service.

Mine is booked in for 2nd year service. Checking the Toyota online booking system shows brake fluid and diff fluid change.👍🏻

Mine is booked in for a 2nd service too in Liverpool.
Checking the online booking system it says change brake and diff fluid.👍🏻

On the service sheet it also has a tick box for 'Check Alarm operation' . . .
(ticked in my case at the second service)
How would they do that anyway?? Lock the car and try to break in? If the alarm goes off, it works!?

Even an 'X' or 'N/A' would be a little more honest. It makes me wonder what else gets the 'sharp-pencil-clear-conscience' treatment ...

Toyota GB have confirmed the diff oil should have been replaced. I have not heard anything from the service manager at the dealership, but now that Toyota GB have contacted them directly they will hopefully get in touch with me.

No issues with oil filter when mine was done last week.

On the diff oil, I got a call yesterday and they are now in agreement that it should have been done. Service manager was great about it to be honest, it’s booked to be changed next Friday. I’ll just bear this experience in mind when I’m due a full service and try to flag the requirement in advance.
