GR86 Second service costs

Let’s remember that your Porsche, Audi RS, M, RR, would be the better part of £1100-£1400 for that 20k service - before pads, discs, shocks, tyres, annual warranty, annual subscriptions ….. ffs!

Apologies , just reminding myself of the pain. I’m off to a quiet place to give myself a good talking to.

Love your GR86 you lucky devils!

I'm trying to find a good Japanese indy as all around me it's German. There's one my brother would go to for his 86 for MOT and basic things, only to fail, not give him options to resolve because they couldn't. Was only a snapped Bilstein spring and emissions (known if you have the TD manifold kit) and they have an account but it was too much effort for them so they never phoned back. Went to a supposed Subaru specialist and it dragged on for weeks.

I'm not booked in, until Saturday but I'm already predicting a sh1tsh0w. I'll take a good look at the invoice to make sure all that was promised to be covered in the service is actually done (from my previous post "They do CHANGE oil, filter, pollen, clutch and brake fluid, rear diff oil." ).
I'll have the spare, in stock, oil filter in the boot . . .

In the dealers at the moment. When I dropped it off I checked with the foetus young man to double check what was included in the service. Everything was as previously mentioned plus the key fob battery. The one they tried to charge an extra £15 for !! Will see what's on the service sheet when it's all done

Good luck @chopper602, it sounds promising so far. Mine is in at Hypertech on Monday for the Year 2 (full) service. I’ve already changed the Engine Filter and Cabin Filter myself using the DIY Service Kit I bought last year. I’ve got 5L of Toyota oil, a filter and crush washer in the boot ready to go. Brake fluid was done during BBK installation in December. Key fob battery changed last week myself for £1:30. I don’t know that there’s much left for the garage to do! 😆

Well it's done. Not sure it's worth £545 but there you go . . .

(Need 4 tyres now, want to keep to same size and profile, whats the preferred choice ?)

Personally I’d move to a 225 width and save yourself a fair whack.

I’ve just put continental sport contact 7s on and they’ve been great thus far. Much quieter than the PS4 and just as grippy.

My 30.000 km service (2nd dealer service, but car is 1,5 years old) is due this Thursday. I'm bringing my own engine oil as usual, and have already stated that I want original parts (which gave me the correct oil filter last time), but I'm wondering whether I should remove my HKS drop-in filter before the service?
It doesn't seem like they change the filter?
But should I worry any warranty issues in the future, if they can document that I'm not using an OEM filter, even though it's the stock airbox?

I have the same filter and I don't think they even checked it. It's certainly still there.

A lot of the guys who work in dealers now are 'fitters' and will just swap out the parts on the job sheet and tick boxes on the check list (even alarm operation was ticked on mine . . .) and that is it.

(or am I being a little unfair?)

Second ‘Full’ Service completed today at Hypertech (Bonnybridge), an independent Japanese Specialist. Invoiced cost £78 labour. Adding on the price I paid for the Service Kit and Brake Fluid, including delivery (£96.60) the total cost of my Yr2 Service comes to £174:60 including VAT. That’s a decent saving over the dealership price.
Worth stating was the fact that I had several ‘low voltage’ error codes stored in the ECU: no doubt a combination of the week I never had it on the conditioner, the Tracker and the fact that I also left the internal lights on for 2 days before being noticed (doh!). All checked, reset and good. Lesson learned wrt the interior lights.

I bought the 86 as a way of having fun handling at an affordable price with low maintenance costs.

I have another car that has the potential to throw a 5 figure bill so I'm happy to pay higher servicing costs to maintain the 10 year Toyota warranty. Doesn't mean I'm not going to try and negotiate though.

On another car, we pay about £300 for manufacturer extended warranty.

Second service is going "well".

I always bring my own engine oil (Castrol Edge 0W-20), and when he asked if i brought the right oil, I saw that they had specified 0W-16 on the invoice. I then had to argue with him that 0W-20 is what it says on the oil cap as well as in the manual.
I now know that I should probably go elsewhere the day that I want 5W-30 for a trackday.

Later on they then informed me that they had made a mistake in storage, and didn't have the differential oil in stock. They can get it from another dealer, but it will take more than an hour more than scheduled before they are finished now.

They have a nice office where I can work while I'm waiting, but of course their Lenovo dock connecting my laptop to a monitor, wont charge my HP pc, and I'm therefore going to run out of power before they are finished 🙃

They're really not very good at this servicing 'lark' are they . . .

Wonder if the same happens with old Mrs. Miggins Yaris ?

I'm very tempted this year to do a pilgrimage to RRG Macclesfield since they are rated better than most but even they will have issues. The personal touch and actual customer service from years ago has gone. Skoda years ago when a local chain took over were fantastic. But once they moved to a new bigger show room and the car was older than 5yrs they didn't want to know.

I would go there if closer, for sure.

What miff’s me here is a fixed price service at £545 seems to be playing shy.

As in a 6k miles car goes in, and they service centre then decide brake fluid or diff oil changes don’t have to be done. My attitude is all about value for money.
So whether its needed or not, it should be done. I’m paying for it, and fresher fluids and oils is a good thing, aged or not.

I would have no problem booking it in with Rich at RRG (they fitted my Cobra exhaust), but it's such a bloody long way for me and unless done on a Saturday morning would mean a day off work. If only the regular dealer network had someone as clued up and enthusiastic about the brand . . .

If the service cost I am paying for has change the engine, diff and brake fluids as part of that years maintenance itinerary, then I expect them to change the fluids, after all the service comes round based on age or mileage whichever comes first. Just because say you have only done 8k by the second service year doesn’t mean they don’t need to drain and replace fluids, and that goes for top ups.
